Nope. The body is not channeled. Kinda looks that way without being able to see the running boards and splash guards. Im going to try and get some more detailed pics of things as we go from here out. I just looked back at previous posts and my pics leave something to be desired
I like it, and I think you'll appreciate the 6.0 once you start driving it! My '51 Pontiac wagon has the little 4.8, and it flat hauls. I'm putting a 6.0/4L60E in my '47 Diamond T. If you haven't started the harness, or have one, try this site, "LT1swaps.com". Has the pin outs for the stock harness, the ECM pin-outs, so if you have, or can get, an engine harness and the underhood fuse/relay panel, it's all laid out. 5 wires to find and hook up. I say this, having all the stuff for mine but not hooked up yet! I used the stock harness in it's entirety in the wagon from the '01 Silverado donor. Anyway, nice work. Brian
Haven't got into the wiring harness business yet. I will check out the site. By the way that little 36 is kool as hell! Thanks! I must give credit where credit is due. This truck is being built by Al Gaither at Hooligan Hotrods. Im just the guy with a good idea here and there. I may however do the paint work. I want to paint all the interior pieces for sure, but I dont really miss being a painter for a living so we will see.
Here are a couple of quick shots for you guys to check out. Al got the bed and rear frame section to a good stopping point for a few days. Ended up taking 7.25 inches out of the bed sides. Got the fenders tacked on. The fenders are rough but workable and figure they will be easier to work on mounted. Since we are taking it off the jack stands we thought we should stick the front end up there to see how she looks. We still need to shorten the running boards but you can use the old imagination on that.
It's looking good, now I know two that are chopped and shortend, I hope to find a stocker to park next to for some photos. What did you decide on the seats ?
Ok Guys. I have really let this go for too long without posting anything new. The fact is I dont have a ton of new stuff. I did spend a few bucks and threw a big monkey wrench in the plans. Salina isnt happening for the truck. In fact Im shooting to have the major body stuff done by then. I know its been chopped and shortened but I decided to take it a few steps further. 39 chevy sedan front clip and a section job on the cab. The front clip poses a whole new set of problems but thats part of the fun. Here are a couple teaser shots. Obviously the section has not been done. Thanks to everyone for their input. I need a 39 chev headlight bucket
Cool. Is it me, or do the front fenders need to come up a little on the cab? Looks like the car fenders are a bit shorter than the truck ones, maybe moving them up, and lengthening the skirt (behind the wheel opening) would make the cab look sectioned without doing that. How tall are you? Truck cabs get pretty little...
Im only 5'6" . It will be tight even at that height. Even if we move it up a bit the difference in the cowl height between the car and the truck is about 4 inches. Not exactly sure how yet but reworking the back end of the front fenders is in order. I was thinking we should bring them back into the door and mimic the teardrop shape of the rears. In the pics its just layin up on the tires. The devils in the details.
Thanks guys. I have been letting this sit for awhile due to some health issues that are expensive without insurance, but thats besides the point. Point is that we are about to make a big push on these body mods in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully, fingers crossed, we can tow it up to Salina for leadsleds. Just to show off the progress a bit.
Here it is. Sectioning of the cab. In the process the bodyline around the cab was eliminated. It didnt match up with the one on the hood of the sedan so its smooth sided now. Maybe later we can do a little something off of the hood and into the cowl
If you have trouble finding a used 39 Chevy headlight bucket, you might try I & I Reproductions for a new one. Chevys of the 40's may have them also.
here are a couple quick shots of whats going on. smoothed out the cowl rounded the door corners reworked the windshield opening since it wont be a roll out suicided the doors with new bear claw latches
Looking good! I like the not too crazy-low chop. Did you lose the belt line in back too? You have major skills not warping that if you did.! With the bassackwards opening doors make sure the bottom front corner doesn't hit the bottom rear of the front fender... seen it be a problem... Just needs a bigger corner radius cut out of it if it does.
The plan is to bring the fenders back into the front 1/3 of the door. So, the front lower portion of the door will become a static part of the cab. Then the door will swing out over the fender. Here is a little 30 second sketch that McPhail did as we were talkin about it the other day As for the bodyline it was shaved all the way around. Im not the one with the skillz. All the fab work is being done by Al Gaither of Hooligan Hotrods. Should be back on the frame tomorrow. I'll post a pic of it
here is a couple of shots with it back on the frame getting ready to mount this front end you get an idea of how much the fender is going to come into the door. Earlier I had said the fender would come into the first 1/3rd of the door. Apparently Im real bad with fractions! Actually We are just going to mimic the rear fender lines. Decided to keep it a little more even front to rear instead. re shaping the squareish look of those fenders Basically this is a runaway train type of project. AAARRRGGHHHH!! Oh well, still fun!
someone mentioned that they weren't seeing any difference in the windshield opening. Look at the post from 7-12. Bottom pic is before and the one above is the after. Kinda obvious I thought?????
