Two thumbs down for painted bumpers, unless you're building an '80s flashback car.

Sandblast to bare metal, sand, prime, paint. It will stay until you tap something, then it will chip.

You so funny... but I would think you need to check again. I'm not the one with the stupid big sticker on my window, or the O/T car in my avatar.

    got me there.
    you say ta-mah-toe, i say you're a ruh-tard.
i love how riled up my "big stupid sticker" gets people, same reason i wanna paint that bumper:p
    re-****in-lax dude.

  11. Get them sand or bead blasted. The paint them just like anything else.

I guess you could acid etch them and paint them but blasting is a sure thing.

Don't listen to anyone else about to paint or not to paint. They don't have to be impressed by your car.

only here can a topic about a painted bumper bring a fight about a o/t avatar! i love this place!

  13. Id sand/grind the chrome off leave it bare and clear it beore Id paint them body color. A bumper for a 49-50 ford shouldnt be that hard to find, they might even repop them...

It's kinda embarr***ing when all the people across the world on this board can make more sense in the english language than someone who lives in America. WTF are you babbling about?

As long as the rust is gone and the original plating has good adhesion still, all you need is a roughed up surface to paint to. The roughing up process will almost always sand through the thin chrome layer and show the much thicker nickel layer underneath.

the other dude there was calling my sticker stupid, i think it's totally *****in'!
he says tomato, i say tomato.
oh wait, that dosen't make any sense!
so i spelled it the way you say it; toe-may-toe, tah-mah-toe, except i took the low-brow route and just called him a retard, but spelled it ruh-tard so it was politically correct. does that clear things up for you chum?:p

thanks for the props on the caddy, good to see other people who can apprecieate something for what it's worth.

the at***ude on this board really fits this crotchety old scene

oh yeah, grind that bumper down to bare metal, then prep & paint it like it was made outta' metal.

If you are looking for chrome plating in Georgia try:

I painted a '50 Chevrolet pickup about 25 years ago. Low buck job. Chrome was in poor shape so I sandblasted the bumpers and shot them with white acylic enamel. Still looks decent today.

    because...

like was stated so many times, bad chrome looks better than painted bumpers, the 80's are over and it wasn't a good look.

I dunno... I've got a pull out from an old Hot Rod mag w/ a pink Camaro that's got some funky paint goin' on and neon lights in the grille opening.. and that whole prostreet treatment... and then there's a funny salmon and seafoamish bullet nose Stude on my wall too... Pretty hot lookin' rides... and the music, man that was good **** too... Billy Joel, K.C. and The Sunshine Band, Air Supply.... Lmao....

More of an 80's rap guy though.. Chrome them bumpers foo!! Just get an estimate and save up your cash... Or you could gold plate 'em, now that's a hot look...

Get them re-chromed and get that nice bright shiny look again . I just never get it about the Painted Bumper look . I never did like it and never will !
Chrome is where it's at .
