Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by funderbolt, Mar 27, 2010.

  1. Hey guys, Love the look of these slicks. are they good to use on the strip ?
Have heard a lot of bad about these. Are they all retreads or can you get them new?
We dont have a dealer in Australia for these so will have to get some specially sent but am unsure of which brand to get. Any help would be great
    cheers

funderbolt, what are you trying to do with them? How much power? There are some different brands: Towel City, Hurst, Radir, Firestones. Are you fenderless and need a big tire like 30" tall and wide or are you looking for smaller diameter?

There are a zillion threads on this already. Do a search on "Cheater Slick" or "Pie Crust" or something like that. Some of the guys have swapped them out at the track and found the Radirs are the best for traction. Read up then we can discuss some more.

  3. hey thanks will do. Want them for my g***er. running a 408 windsor just on 500 hp and want about a 29x9.5" slick for nostalgia drags only. We can not run these on the street at all over here.
Any way thanks for the info as i am just new to this seen and not real sure what where and how.
    Cheers

I really wish M&H would bring back their pie crust and do a DOT version. then you'd have the look and the performacne, I talked to them, they did it once and couldn't sell them. Now they are like NO WAY! I think they'd sell like hot cakes!

  5. Search is fine if you have a hundred hours. Why cant someone just tell us. Do they work or not. I am sure anyone does not expect them to work behind a 1000HP but are they Ok for up to say 500 HP. As for being retreads. I wouldnt let that bother me. truckers till use them and back in the day in Canada we had United tire who made a good street tire. I had a set and was very happy with them. (1966/67) and Casler slicks were retreads and worked very very well.

I had 402 hits with several per page that directly addressed this question.

I ran Hursts, none of these tires will perform like a modern wrinklewall slick.

I personally like the radir tires the best, just not a fan of recaps. None of them will hook like new soft compound slicks of today but on the track with tire compound they spray on the tracks and the air pressure down a bit they are ok but its all about how much power, ch***is, trans and clutch or converter is how well it will hook. For the street they are great as long as its not raining.
