As some of you know Al Bergler won the first Ridler Award in 64 with Aggravation,.... Al is a very talented Tin Knocker, and a all around great guy,... A friend was over to Al's and emailed these pictures to me today,.... Enjoy. Al, Taking a well deserved break.
Here is a shot of my Logghe altered getting rebuilt. Al did the tin for me in 1978 and was kind enough to give me a "Bergler Tin" medalion for the cowl. Thanks Al
I was looking at all the hot rods he performed his magic on, which were in B.G. last year, amazing talent....
Our own Hemifarris is a good friend of Al. Maybe he'll come on and comment. I've got an invitation to Mr. Farris's home to look at his collection of cars and he has offered to take me to Al's shop. I did some suspension work on one of Al's friends car, a '59 Caddy that had a lot of Al's work in the engine compartment. You would not believe the detailed pieces that he made to cover the firewall, wheel wells, radiator suport, and master cylinder. A true masterpiece of aluminum shaping. Frank
I was at Al's shop a couple of weeks ago. He had an extra set of running boards he gave me for my new 40 project. I am always in awe of the aluminum work he does. That body he is just finishing up is incredable. The small details are what set his work apart from the rest. And I have said this a hundred time before, Al is the most humble dude I have ever met.
I was sitting there as your buddy from Canada snapped these photos. You should have included pics of the hood Al built for your buddy's '32 coupe. Al hasn't lost a step in his car building prowess. He's always been a one man operation and likes it that way. All welds are hand filed, not ground, so as not to heat and warp his beautiful sculptures.....Hopefully he'll be working on his '40 convertible sometime this spring. It will have a Carson top, a dual quad Cadillac motor with a true batwing air cleaner and a handmade bullnose moulding running along the top of the hood...Mike
I have been to Al's a few times and he is as every one says. For a guy thats 73 years young. He still has his reflexs and i belive could step right back in the driver seat of a fuel funny car.
I have had the good fortune to visit with Al on several different occasions, Hell of a nice guy. I see the tin for Larry Payne's "Gang Green" car in a few of those pics. Sure do miss Larry.
Larry was a good friend and a great guy.Woodward Avenue won't ever be the same without him. His front tin work just needed a little paint work.....
