    Hi guys,

I'm relocating for work, and will be working in the Dallas/Addison, TX area. I'm looking for a recommendation on an apartment building/complex within maybe 5-10 miles of Addison that's safe (I have a wife and little boy moving with me!), clean, and decent priced (under or around $700/month) in the area.

    Thanks in advance!

From what I remember of Texas that is a pretty good area as far as the DFW area goes. A quick search brought up this page to peruse, http://www.move.com/apartments/addison_texas/?source=ig

Poke around on that a bit and it might give you some places to ask the guys in the area about.

Addison IS nice and safe.....$700 might be kinda tight.
Keep an open mind, you might can get a rent house or duplex for a little more than that. Richardson, Carrolton might be a little less expensive, and right in the same area

700.00 sounds way low for Addison. Don't rule out the surrounding area. Carrollton, farmers Branch,Coppell,Plano Lewisville,Frisco,Irving,Bedford,Richardson,
Good luck The toll way will be your friend

He is right as is JJ Mack. $700 wont get you much if anything in Addison. I knew a girl that lived at Prairie Springs off of 75 & Renner in Richardson. She had a real nice place and paid like $750 for her place with an attached garage. Of course this was last year and prices may have gone up. Best of luck

Lewisville is great. Had family there for years. One of my favorite places to hang out.

    First of; welcome to Texas.

When we moved here (about 10 years ago) $700 didn't get you much of an apartment in that area, so I think you need to review your budget a bit.

There are some nice places around there, take a look around before you rent though. There is an area of apartments just north of there (Tollway and Frankfort) that have some crime problems, so you may want to stay out of that area.

Depending on the age of your son, and the interests or occupation of your wife, you may want to go a little bit north, Plano or Frisco. There are many nice apartment complexes, lot's of shopping, great schools and other amenities. Keep traffic in mind though, the Dallas North Tollway gets a little busy during rush hour (parking lot)

You're welcome to PM me if you'd like some more ideas about TX.. or just want to hang out.

  9. Everyone seems to be moving to TX, I've had six of my Kali friends move there recently. Hmmmm...

I live in Addison, it is a cool place - very small North Dallas community with a ton of business but not a lot of apartments and homes. For the most part all of the reasonable apartments were torn down last year to build a huge mega complex called Vitruvian Park - 99 acres of stupid pricy land. You do have options in the area however! PM me and Ill try to help you out - I sound like a realtor, but am not. :)

My friend works in Addison and lives just over the border in carrolton. Off of midway and frankford there are lots of complexes and very very close to the main parts of addison. I lived there for 2 years in a condo. One bedroom, detached garage, large living area, patio etc and it was $850/month.

    Hi guys,

First off, thanks for all the replies! I'll be PM'ing some of you shortly with some questions.

When I was a single guy, back in '98 and '99 I lived in Irving, so I've been around the area before a bit, but my wife hasn't. My son is two, so mostly we're looking for a place with a playground, or nearby parks for him to run at. :)

We're not looking for a garage, tool storage, etc. because we'll be buying a house within six months to a year... my hobbies are going on hold for that time period, sadly.

Here are some of the complexes we've found that look decent, anyone have any info on them? Are they in decent neighborhoods? Clean? Safe for my wife and son to walk to the store, etc. from?

    Astoria Apartments:

    The Davenport:

    Centerpoint Apartments:

Thanks guys, I really appreciate you looking out for us! And yes, we're excited to be Texan's! I'm really looking forward to checking out some of the shows that you all put on, and meeting some of the southern HAMB crew!

Anyone in the area that can recommend an apartment complex within abou ten miles of Addison?

  15. My girl lived at the Davenport for 2 years and we lived there together in a townhome for 6 months. It's where all the service industry workers that work Addison live. It's cheap and you get what you pay for, I wouldn't say crime was a big issue, but it's not the nicest place... there were rooster's running around from time to time. It's within walking distance of everything you might want in Addison and there's a school just across the side street with some decent fields and playground... and a great park another street over. It also has a bunch of little pools so if you're into that there's always one close by and usually you can find a quiet one.

I'd feel fine recommending it to you for the time period that you'll be living there. I don't think it's a great long term solution, but it's right in the middle of everything and a great way for the 3 of you to explore the area to figure out what's important to you and what you really want next.

  16. Looking at the other two you listed now I would recommend Davenport, Centerpoint is way up there and out of the Addison scene, and the Astoria is kind of down in another smaller no mans land. If you want to live and play in Addison, and I think you all will like it, you want to be as close to Beltline as possible. The school is Anne Frank Elementary and if you look to the right of it a little way on google maps you can see a little gr***y circle in the middle of a bunch of houses. That's a cool little park that we used to take our dogs to all the time.

We both miss living there from time to time... especially now as I p*** it every day about a third of the way into my current commute. But I like my garage, and owning (Although really Chase Bank owns a hell of a lot more of it than we do)

Oh, and also if they're still doing it there's a TGI Fridays just up the street from the Davenport that has a friday night car show every week in the summers, we walked to and through that quite often. I'm actually getting kinda jealous :)

Wow, thanks for the details, Mysta2!!

All of this info is very helpful! We found a realtor who is a friend of a friend, who was generous enough to drive through each of these complexes, and gave us some feed back on them too (plug: her name is Kara Bolding w/Ebby Halliday Realtors).

Anyone else have a place they'd recommend, even if it's not one of these three?

    Thanks!

Don't come!! Earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes, volcanos, the earth is spinning off its axis!!!!;) Just kidding.....I can't blame you a bit for getting out of the snow country. A lot of people come here from your area (to the coast) and the hardest thing they find getting used to is the humidity. Dallas/FTW isn't so bad.....I think. Thanks about 600 miles north of me in Corpus. That area, from what I'm being told, has a great job market and lots of stuff to do. I've been thinking about moving up there myself....I know one thing, I've got to get out of Corpus....this town is dying and all my friends have moved to SA, Austin, Dallas. Anyway, be careful on your trip and good luck there in the big D. Aman.
