HAMBers in Florida

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by BTB Rocco, Mar 27, 2010.

  1. Just trying to find other HAMBers in Ocala and Gainesville, Florida. My girl and I will be moving to Ocala in June. Just trying to find other car people and like-minded individuals.

Also, what kind of shows are down there? I think Billet Proof is in Gainesville, right?

I live in Ocala...There a few traditional rides around here, and there is always some kinda car show going on...Garlits just had his hot rod show, he also has a hell of a Mopar show too..Daytona has their spring show this weekend, Webster swap meet is on the first sunday of the month alway good to go to (about 45 min away). I hope you guys have jobs already, it is tough here, but the homes are getting reasonable.

  5. She's got a job, but i have nothing at the moment. Going down there in late May to look for a job and find a place to live..... any streets i should stay away from in ocala? Rentals seem pretty cheap all over. Gotta have a garage though ;)

You can find almost any kind of Cruise-in, car show, swap meet, etc. in Florida here.

If you go to the Webster swap meet, be sure to get there early . The first time I went it was almost 1pm and most everyone had already packed up.

There isn't a whole lot going on in Ocala but a national forest, lol. You could have a bad *** compound though, haha. Cool thing is you can bounce down to Orlando or shoot up to Jax and hit all the towns in between. Get ready for some hot, sticky summers though.

Hit up Hamber 'Ahotrod' or search for the Poorboys car club - most of those guys are in and around Weeki Wachee, not to far from Ocala - all a bunch of first rate guys and hard core hot rodders too.

not so much streets but areas to avoid-ocala is sprawled out everywhere since the building boom hit a few years ago. even areas that are not in the city limits are still considered ocala. most areas are alright-you'll know which ones too avoid as soon as you see them. what kind of work do you do?

5th generation here in ocala what do you need to no,

  12. Thanks everyone. We'll make sure we hit up some of those shows and swaps when we get down there. So.... with the heat, i'm gonna want a window A/C unit in my garage, huh? :(

I'll make sure i do that. I'm used to all of the fellowship with all of the clubs up here in the Chicago area, especially knowing the Chrome Czars. It would be good to know some of those guys down there.

Sheetmetal fabricator by trade. English wheel and all that. I've been working for Kevin and Chad at Hot Rod Ch***is and Cyle for the last three years. Gonna be hard to leave there.

I'll PM ya with Some of my questions later this week.

First year is the hardest you make it thru ,the rest is easy. Finding a job will not be real easy but housing and cost of living is not so bad. Been here 30 years and wouldn't go back north.

  15. Well, we'll only be there for a year probably.... just enough to get adjusted

Sounds great, but out of our price range. We'll probably just be renting for now. We'll be lucky to be making combined($) what i make alone right now.

    Well, Welcome to Florida.
We are not in Ocala, but SouthEast of where you will be landing. I do not know of any fabrication shops over there. Let me know if we can be of any help to you!

there's a place right off I-75 that custom builds fire trucks that might be a option

  20. Thanks for the welcome. I'll probably be shooting a PM to everyone on this post that offered up some help or guidance once we get there. It's always good to know people when you're traveling/moving.... new places can be intimidating.

Thanks, I'll check it out, every thing's worth a shot, right? Worst they can do is tell me "No"

the job scene is pretty slow here, he is talking about e-one. its not really a shop its a factory, all shift work. dont know if you would want to work there. i'm an auto painter and its been pretty slow in this industry for a couple of years. it does seem to be picking up recently though. there is a few resto shops around doc's muscle shop is one check them out when you get here. good luck

  23. Well, we found a great place to live. Last Friday was my last day at Hot Rod Ch***is. No job in Ocala for me quite yet, but i have a lot of applications out. Doc's muscle shop wasn't looking for anyone right now either. There's a couple car audio places that might need some part time help, though. We start our 2-day journey on next Wednesday to head down to Ocala. Real busy up till then.... My club has their show (Blacktop Barons Road Block) tomorrow, and then our annual club breakfast the next day, followed by more packing. Just hope we can get it all done and everything fits on the trailers. Wish us luck.

Wow, You are gonna melt away.....unless you're working in an ice factory and sitting on a block of ice.

  28. Yeha, but when all you Floridians are freezing your ****s off, i'll be asking when it starts getting cold.... hahaha :)

It's actually not too bad, as long as i'm done out in the shop by 2:30ish. Just gotta start a little earlier than i'm used to.

Welcome to the Sunshine State :) Ocala is hot hot in the summer and colder in the winter then Daytona Beach (my home town) There are two shows at the speedway spring and fall and also the Daytona Beach Dream Cruise in October. New Smyrna Beach closes their street down for a local cruise, nice trip from Ocala thru the forest ;) Billetproof is near by you too. Orlando has Old Town and Sanford has Route 46 that's worth the ride. If I think of others I'll pop back in. Enjoy the Sun!
