This '50 Ford belongs to HAMBer laidoutford and it can be seen on these pages elsewhere, including pics of the chopjob.
The chopped top looks killer and I told him many times how much I like it.I guess he's very pleased the way it turned out.Again a pic by Dave.

Another pic of the hardtopped Coupe.Okay,it's no Chevy...
I really like Shoebox Fords and this car fits into the theme we are talking here. It's so "simple" and I could spend the whole day just looking at the tire/hubcap combo.

  9. Since we're looking at Shoeboxes here's one I like...

I just came back from a journey through the net and I found some old pics of the Freng Merc. Also one with the top up and those ripple disc's I already mentioned.I guess these pics are interesting for those how really dig this Merc.

    WOW!
    What a unreal, KICK*** thread!
You guy's posted some great stuff here..
I love the simplicity of many of those cars. I'm a firm believer in the 'less is more' theory..

I also like both the suade and shiny paint..all depends on the car for me..
I look at my '53 and most of the time love the shiny.....but then wonder if i shoulda left it suade..
Oh well....too late now, guess i'll be polishing this one.. [IMG]

    Again, GREAT post guy's!

    Tony.

AND HERE COMES THE X-MAS SPECIAL :

Found some great pics in the net again.I almost didn't recognized it...This is the fomerly peach painted Garcia Ford now painted blue/white.

Also has some new bullets on the hubcaps.I believe I like the older version more.We need more shots to find out...

A front shot of the 4-door Merc out of the Drag'N Shop.(By the way, what is the right spelling ?)

Remember the pick-up standing next to it ?

Oh my god ! Here's another pic of the '40 Desoto...what a beauty...I found out the car belongs to Paul Cepeda from Nipomo,CA. Mr.Cepeda,we are deeply, deeply impressed...

Check out the v'ed bumpers and what they do to the overall look of this sled... I can't describe my feelings while looking a this car...simply unbelievable...

The '36 Ford Coupe Cole Foster is building for Kirk Hammet.
Again, simply unbelievable...Cole,you simply are a magician and thanks for building those cars so we eartlings can enjoy them...Beautiful profile.

Laidoutford,I know you will get crazy by the look of this beautiful ***.I wouldn't paint the car...

One more pic of the Valencia Chevy.Never get tired to look at this one.

The Kaiser standing next to it.

Since the feedback regarding the Garcia-built Epstein Chevy was to big I tried to find more pics. Here's one.

    Just great !

The light blue hardtopped Chevy. Now with Buick teeth...

    The Garcia Buick again.

I believe the '51 Ford standing next to it also will get a "Garcia body treatment".

    Good looking Carson topped Merc.

I really like the way the tires are deeply positioned in the wheelweels.Almost every car in this topic has the front wheels like this.Very important for the right look. Definitely no reverse wheels here.

Another very good looking Merc.Like the front with the homegrown grille and the bumper with the Kaiser overrider.

I just woud have retained the drip rail while chopping it.

Absolutely gorgeous '36 Ford.Watched the progress of this one over the years.

The car simply is perfect the way it is.

The Freng Merc with top up in his latest disguise.

My buddy Jessie used to be in the same car club.

And last but not least,a pair of nice looking Chevy's.Want to please you Chevy guys. [IMG]

I hope you enjoy the pics.My big thank you goes to Don Dillard who is responsible for all these great shots.Kustoms for ever.

Merry x-mas to you all !!!

The Frenz, That Merc is a 4 door, It belolongs to =mike= here on the HAMB, unless he sold it. Is it really for sale now? I would love to buy it.

    Droplord49,

That 49 Chevy is indeed not the real Larry Ernst car but rather the Keith Ashley "clone" re-designed by Harry Bradley, like TheFrenZ already mentioned. But however... this is an awsome custom car, so here are a few more pictures. All pictures where found on the internet or scanned form magazines/books.

    <image src=http://images6.fotki.com/v87/photos/2/223020/1090478/1left2-vi.jpg>

The original Barris build car had a Canadian "mercury" grille mountd inside a 49 Mercury grille shell. It looked good but the two never really flow together to well. So on the Ashley custom the grille was scratch build to fit perfectly inside the grille shell.

    <image src=http://images5.fotki.com/v81/photos/2/223020/1090478/1left1-vi.jpg>
    </center>

Here the original restored Larry Ernst Chevy and the Ashley car next to each other and the diference in grille treatment is very clear.

Harry Bradley thought the car would look better with a lower mounted spare tire... and so it is.
