getrag 5 speed transmisions? I picked up an O/T GMC pickup today for next to nothing. The engine is toast (4.3L V-6) but the trans only has 10 000KM. I cannot test this ******, but ***uming everything is ok with it, after I look it over and I use it in my '31 Chevy, coupled to a mildly built 350, would this ****** hold up? My 350 is dynoed at 337HP at the flywheel.

Any input on these is appreciated.

You are about 100 lb-ft over the design numbers. If you baby it, it will probably be OK...but what fun is that?
If you have to do any 'special' work for the install and then trash the box will you be able to rebuild or get another like it reasonably priced?

They seem to be pretty common around thes parts...mostly in late 80's, early 90's GM pickup's, mostly all 4.3L engines tho...

  4. Drop it in and baby it. When you do jump on it and blow it have another to swap in. Thats the hot rodding way.

I had one in a 88 chevy pickup with a 350, I put it through hell and never had any problems with it. It did finally give it up but it had almost 300,000 miles on it.
