I wouldn't mind a pair of gl*** doors. That would help get the body straightening started a lot sooner. You wouldn't happen to have any?
I dont. There is a bunch of stuff out in California. Price Auto has a BUNCH of old Willys parts. Steel and gl***.
What about some rusty ***ed, beaten up, hulk of a shell? That is what would work for me...just a rusty shell of a 37-42 willys coupe....Hell I'd settle for just the top half!!!
good find have fun with it. i have all steel for my coupe and some of its fibergl*** light weight race parts but have been looking for a Cal Automotive fibergl*** front end for our Willys coupe like it ran with in the 1960's
I have a friend in nothern MN that has a car I need....if you bring it to me, I will give you a pair of gl*** doors, rear fenders, and deck lid....All left overs from the Rebel Reaper.....(by the way, i would paint it green with envy) Nice score!
Hello again : I have a drivers door that is a 9 out of a 10 and enough parts to put together a p***engers door allthough you will need some sedan door interstructure pieces to fix it. Maybe we can work out a trade on some of the 55 chevy parts ? I'm putting one together to sell so I can finish off one of my willys. PM me , Thanks, Bryan.....
Congrats on finding a steel one to start with. Can't wait for more pics and progress reports. I have one that is in similar shape that I'm working on too. If you ever need info. or need anything don't hesitate to ask.... Rocky JpTrans@Prodigy.net
just finished mine a few months ago I have fenders and running boards and grill left over the grill is not 100% but great for a rechrome infact it was preped for rechroming but while at the chromers I found a NOS one I could afford mines a 41 with a fender guitar theamed interior and a few theams carried on the outside running a 426 hemi with 471 blower but sorry after the price of the motor all I could afford was gl*** so fenders are gl***
i saw a guy selling some nos front fenders in bakersfield yesterday. only $9800.00 hehe. too rich for my blood.
looks like your off to a good start now.... please post more pics as you move along... dont trow anything away,, you should be able to sell whats left and recoup some money.....
I personally know how good a 40 sedan parts car is when building a coupe. You can just about build a coupe from a pre 41 sedan and to me the 40 was the best year. Great score, it will get you going on your coupe real fast now.
Yep, I used a 37 sedan to save my coupe. I used the ch***is, floor, cowl, rear panel. Worked out great! Good for you getting that sedan!
Sweet!! Sorry I don't have pics, but there was an orange one at the HAMB drags this year, and you should have seen the before pics of it.This car was amazing, but started out as somethin most of us wouldn't have considered.Anyway, looks like a killer start from here.Good luck,PLEASE keep us posted!!
Has anyone had any dealings with US Bodysource gl*** parts? I was looking at their Willys coupe doors and would like some feedback before I spend the money. Thanks, Noel
True to form, 'gl*** replacement for steel parts, are available from only a couple of sources.......Ronnie Sandifer @ Hillside Street Rods in Louisiana and Vinnie @ Willys Works in Liberty NY. This will allow using oem type hinges and door workings with the least amount of fabrication and grief. Sandifer's would be my first choice. Might also try John @ American G***er in Ohio. His may work, though I have no first hand knowledge. Everyone else uses hidden hinge fabricated doors where there's a pocket molded into the inner door panel, and the hinge uses an extension to mount to a steel framework in the cowling.
I know we did some personal e-mails back and forth about doors but, I wanted to ad to this thread. There was a Willys shop here in town where I live and was run by Harry Phillips, Harry did the best work of anybody out there but didn't run a business as good as his fab skills. I was around when he set out to build the best gl*** Willys car ever. His plan was to build it so you could not tell it from the original and all parts interchanged with a real steel car. He did it and its a true work of art. The molds have since been sold to Ronnie Sandifer @ Hillside Street Rods in Louisiana. If you have a steel car and want to use gl*** parts then this is the only place to consider! I personally have not bought any of these parts but I was there during the makings of these molds and Harry made sure they fit as he showed me first hand with steel coupes in his shop. The car he pulled the molds from was the best 41 coupe I have ever seen, it was stripped to bare metal and the car had no issues. I still see that car at a few shows each year and I know in the back of my mind how perfect that car is. So there you have it, get the good stuff and be way ahead when it comes to fit and finish. One last note, I don't know how many parts can be pulled from a mold before it loses its original shape, with that said as time goes on they may not fit as well as the first ones did? I took a bunch of detailed pictures of the second car from the mold and its so hard to tell from an original steel car. I cant say that about ANY other gl*** makers out there!
