I know everybody hates these threads but if you don't ask you don't know.

What would you pay for something like this? The usuals, interior missing, engine doesn't run, probably seized. All trim and garnish moldings are there.

I think that the guy is dreaming at $12500. I would think somewhere in the $5-8000 range. It is missing too many parts to be worth $12500.

    I'd say $4500 but I'm cheap.

He's in line with the asking prices that I've seen lately. I wouldn't pay that much, though.

bought one similar a while back but with very minimal rust but no eng and trans for $9K--very straight and sound body and fenders

  6. Hi All,

Original 40 Coupes aren't growing on trees. The car looks solid and they are desirable. This coupe is on Ebay...we'll see, but Ebay isn't a value guide and if you want a coupe? you gotta belly up for the good ones. There are too many that are worthless out there still asking big bucks.
Scoop up the nice ones while you still can.

    IMO

  7. I would go 6500-7500 if it was close to me.

  8. Is my left nut an acceptable form of currency? Because that's what I would give for one...

agree with Murph--good ones are getting scarce-get em while you can-I have the one in my Avatar and an other in the works--glad to have em

  10. I'll be suprized if it doesn't bring well over $10k. In fact the $12.5 probably isn't out of line.

At the Turlock swap meet back in January a fellow was selling his 40 project that ran with a sbc and no interior that was in primer for 6,500

If it has a clear title, $12,500 is probably ok. If not, of course less. Ford isnt making any more but Bob Drake is getting pretty close. Like somebody told me one time when I over paid, "you just bought it early".

$12500 + the cost of building or restoring it will be greater than what you can buy a nicely "done" 1940 Ford, I think. It looks like it needs a lot.

what 3deuce40 said--the Drake copies will be a bit pricey by the time you gather all the pieces--have bought and built 5 in the last few years and starting another--good ones are hard to come by-the blue one in our pics is my son's car--pd $9K for it in pieces 5 yrs ago-needed a firewall-but when stripped, it was rust and dent free other than a few dings here and there--he was offered $12K for it as a roller only by a very knowledgable builder then but prices may have fallen some since-I'm always looking for my next project and they are still pricey for a real good one-doesn't seem to matter if they are Deluxe of Standard

  17. Remember, none of us know the details as to why someone is selling at the wide range of prices we see. If you see a good car for a good price...buy it or tell one of us about it...LOL.

Many people are hurtin for money just to live, but that doesn't really dictate what these cars are worth....You gotta make a case by case decision. $10-12k isn't a bad price for a solid coupe or sedan. If you see them cheaper. go for it.
How many times have we seen ads that say "My loss (for whatever reason) is your gain". Thats really true in this economy.

  18. It's supply and demand. If you want one, you'll buy it. 40's are pretty scarce around here and I believe that one would sell for 12K easily. If I had the means, I would do it. It would probably be a lifetime project for me, but I would deem it as totally worth it.

Interesting range of answers. A 40 carries as much of a following as a 32. Guess it boils down to what a guy wants. I like the commet that I didn't pay too much I just bought early.

I know 40's have a following and I love 'em as much as the next guy, but personally I'd just buy a much nicer '41 or '46 for that kinda money.

  21. I seen the ad for that earlier, too much $$ for our neck of the woods I think.
He also has the drivetrain and suspension advertised separately.
