Clean the lenses, glass I hope, throughly inside and out. Paint the inside of the housing GLOSS white and use 2357 12V bulbs. The 2357 is same CP as 1157 12V on taillamp filament and much bright CP on stop/turn element.
The combination of clean lens, white interior, and 2357 bulbs makes a radical difference in visibility day and night.

If you're running 6V system, the clean lens and white interior make a great difference too but there is no bright stop/turn 6V bulb I know of.

This is a no win argument. Either the multiple dots from the aftermarket lights bug you or they don't. I paint the buckets white and use higher candle power bulbs. If you think I'm stupid that's OK. I have told buddies that they needed to address a low light situation many years ago. I personally believe that it can be done without L.E.D.s but that is just me.

  7. If this has been said forgive me.. the reason modern cars have LED lights is they take half the time to illuminate. thus adding reaction time for the people behind you that don't know how to drive.. especially if their staring at your car but not actually seeing it.

    Compairing L.E.D.'s to S.B.C.'s is S.A.H.

Yuppie beats an exploding '33/'34 stock location gas tank! The brighter the better.

Like some of the others, I have chosen to put safety at the forefront. The tail lights on our A have 32 housings/lenses on the A tail light stanchions and like someone already stated, from a couple of hundred feet away at night you could hardly see them. I would rather have someone see me in time to react rather than have them plow into the back of me & puncture the gas tank.(spreader bar but no bumper) same reason the car has a third brake light as well. during the day you cannot see the lights at all and unless you are right behind the car you cannot see the individual led's. the original taillights are very small & every little bit helps. during the day with my foot off of the brake you cannot tell they are led conversions. we tried the bright bulbs & the led 1157 replacements. They were still not bright enough IMO.

I drive the car defensively and try to always have an escape route planned but there are more idiots on the road everyday. Texting, talking on cell phones, screwing with the radio, playing with a GPS and just generally not paying attention = accident waiting to happen. I would rather laugh at them when they run into each other than have them hit ME. I will take all the steps I can to keep them from running into me. To the guys who have the "hasn't happened to me" attitude - all I can add is.... YET. To the guy who said he would rather be run into than have LED's on his car.....are you fucking serious? that is quite an attitude towards life you got there. I have enough hours, sweat & hard work into my car to not want to have to do it again because of an idiot not paying attention for a split second. To those who think it is not traditional, your opinion. My car, my choice. The car will also soon have seatbelts as well.

Not if you are running 40 Ford tail light buckets. The bulb is deep in the socket and pointed to the sky. I even tried halogen bulbs behind glass and not much difference. These look some what stock until you hit the brakes. I hated to get rid of my blue dots but safty means more to me than style.

I sure would like to see a delay circuit to soften the on/off of LED bulbs. I wouldnt mind "digital" brightness and longevity with an "analog" look.

I thought this was a traditional hot rod site. Run 6V tail lights with a generator. My lakester with LED's so I can be seen.

LED's are safer. I ran standard Model A lights and people were always running up my ass when I'd slow down, because they couldn't see my brake lights very good. I changed to LED's and feel much safer.

    I'm going to run LEDs - I don't give a f$%^ whether the mentally-challenged think its "street-roddish" or not....

It's bizaare that hot rodding, a hobby which was based upon modifying and improving cars, is now populated by Luddite flat-earthers...

BTW - some good info in this thread, after you clear away the horse apples....

I used to do that with the 47 until a kid burn his finger on the very hot glass. I switched to LED bulbs.
