Or, quite possibly '51 thru '54 p***enger heads as they too use intake manifold water p***ages. The end ports started in '55 model hemis.... Ray
yes, but, he said a '55 354, so he's a bit confused regarless. Any '55 or 354 with solid ends would be a truck engine.
Hi George.........the 354 I'm building is one of two I removed from a Higgins boat. These are similar to the truck and industrial engine. The heads have adjustable rockers, sodium filled valves, chrome valve covers with one pair in block and scrip, the other with block letters "CHRYSLER MARINE". I will eventually use Hot Heads aluminin heads as extra 392 heads I have laying around were used at Fremont and Half Moon Bay dragstips for racing and might be a h***le on the street. I thought the 331 had the early style water return and only after '56 when the 392 arrived the water flowed out the front????? I just figured racer's put 392 heads on the 331, a common performance addition. Jerry Sezar
While you may very well have a 354 Marine/Industrial, I doubt it is a '55 model year, more like a '56 model year, not that it matters much, beyond just for the sake of accuracy. Regarding racers using which heads on what engine. My tired old mind seems to recall that racers used 354 heads on 392's, not the other way around. First of all, they wanted the extra cubes, secondly, the 354 heads are said to have straighter ports for better flow. The intake manifolds fit all Chrysler hemi from '51 through '58, 331,354, 392, even though the 392 is a raised deck block. The 392 heads had a unique raised manifold mating surface, which accommodated the earlier manifold dimensions, but resulted in the curved ports. There are spacers available to allow use of 331/354 heads on 392 blocks that address the difference in head design. But, to the best of my knowledge, unless you custom build a manifold, there is no manifold made to accommodate the 392 heads on a 331/354 low deck block. Ray
51-54 car heads are solid front, 55-58 are the opening style. Besides the intake not fitting(twin log or home welded single log would) the OEM water pump or 392 water crossover wouldn't fit either.
Some pics of my (full) garage and the Plymouth! I have had it in storage for some time (longer then I care to say)! I need to get the 1948 Willys (cj2a) done and out of the way so i can start work on the Coupe! The Willys and the Willys trailer will be moved outside when it is street-able. I will have all the room i need then! The garage is really not as bad as it appears in the pics.
this is my 33 plymouth coupe, it has a 1955 331 hemi with the 727, and a 57 olds rear ! has a 48 ford straight axle , the old drag pic is the car back in the 70s !! i found the car in a pa and built it in about 6 months, if you need any help !! just ask
its a 1955 331 ! Most all the parts came from hot head ! Has the bbchevy water pump convertion ! 340 oil pump system ! Heads are full of all new style parts ! She it done up right !
I have a 518 trans in my 34 Plymouth coupe.Had to notch the xmember just slightly in the middle of the xmember to get it to clear. We modified a ch***is eng trans mount made for a 727 and it worked out great. The only problem if the trans needs to come out you have to pull the engine and trans as there isnt enough room without cutting up the xmember to get the trans out.I am running a 360 magnum engine.
My frame is cut and fliped upside down ! Has ladder bars and coils. Uses a 57 olds/pon rear with 31 spline axles. Front is 48 ford.
