I was working on my 54 Chebby this weekend to try and get started on the body. On the rear quarters, there was bondo 1/2" thick covering the patches previosly screwed on, some steel...some galvanize. After a day of grinding and wheeling they are finally off. Some areas were just given the bondo magic swipe erasing holes in a single application. I was worried I was going to have to do the whole wheelwell but they were just on a bondo tear and mudded the entire area. I guess it could have been worse. Now it is patching time Larry
word on the street says you got some nice lookin trim for them there quaters tho so u should make out ok
Exact same story on my 51.The mud was 3/4"thick in some places. The rockers were alum.coil with rivets...then mud!
Sweet trim indeed... I have to resize the pics I have this week. I just cut out below the trunk lid tonight.. Going to be a long haul Slow63 Where are pics of the Rivi? Larry
For once, I got lucky. On my '51 Merc I had NO MUD at all on my body! It's all original! I'm missing the rockers, and most of the lower quarter panels due to rot, but hey, no bondo!!!
I've gotten to the point where i don't wanna grind off other people's body work just because everytime i do, it's worse than the last one... My 53's side's were fairly decent..no glass due to rot, the underside of the car is super solid..but losta dents and dings.. Ahh yes, but the worst part of the car..over a half inch of glass in a 3 ft area.. The damn roof! I surmised that a tree fell on it at some point in it's life..It tore a hole in the center, above the back window, and another above the right door, and niether were welded, just beat back in place and gooped..what a mess!! I got lucky though, the rear section i cut off when i chopped it Post pics as you go if you can, i'd love to see your progress!! Tony.
