Some friends took this picture of what is left of this car while walking in the mountain. It has a very unique firewall but I have no idea what it is. Not much left and a ****py cell phone picture, but not being able to figure it out is bugging me.
Well, you're right on the cell phone pic!! Do you have any more pictures? The engine looks like a GM along with the front suspention, but I can't say for sure!
Although the windshield looks very GM, nothing else about it is correct for that........I am going out on a limb here and suggest maybe Nash........judging by the OHV 6...and the huge firewall protrusions...... No OHV 6's in FOMOCO or MOPAR in that era....Only inline OHV's in GM were Buick and Chev and it's neither of them..........if American, it has to be one of the "Independent".....Studebaker and Hudson were flatheads........doesn't leave much else I can think of except Nash. I checked a few photos of Nash OHV engines and the intake and exhaust is on the left side. That engine appears to have ports of the right side of the head.
I'm pretty sure that those are the holes for the spark plugs in that head. I'd have to wait until I get home and dig out my 1946 Motor Manual to see if it shows the engine in it.
Definately looks like you guys are right on with the Nash. I saw some photos of earlier Nash sixes with spark plugs on the right side, and the rest of the engine looks very similar. I wish they would have taken more pictures (they are not car guys at all), the pic makes me wonder if the roof was cut off or was a convertible. Thanks for all the help.
that body style ran from 41-48 (I believe) and a convertible was only offered in 41 and 48. I'm guessing that chances are it's a cut up sedan. they are unibody at that.
I don't know what year they quit doing this, but when I was 14 years old I had a 1940 Nash that had a straight eight with twin ignition, as in spark plugs on both sides....could explain the hole location as seen, as well as more on the other side? Nash also did this with the straight six. Cheers, Bob
