I cannot begin on how much fun I'm having!!! this little wagon is going to be tons of fun when its done!!!!!! I haven't got this giggty since my 67 chevelle!!!

Couple of things I found out. LOTS of Oil in the coolant. Checked the firing order and that was wrong. Checked points, cap and plugs. Started right up. WOOT! Now I noticed of blow by on cylinder #8(drivers rear) when doing a compression test. Could be a headgasket, seals, rings.(smoke was white btw when i started it. oil pressure was normal.) So with that I just pulled the valve covers and noticed ALOT of buildup. I pulled the heaviest intake off in my life!!!, and the tray is bent to ****, m***ive amounts of sluge everywhere. Totally expected stuff, but just not this much buildup.

So with all the buildup, and some of the push rods, rocker just caked in this stuff. I'm going to rebuild the heads and send the motor out to get rebuilt.

So whos down to rebuild this puppy with me???? Or who do y'all recommend to do it?

I'll post pics later to show the buildup.

    On to the brakes...
This is what i was looking to order. If I can find something local I'd rather do that. Just wanted y'alls input. I haven't pulled the wheels yet, but will do that either tonight or Weds evening.

Go to autozone and get a 68 dual master from a mustang, it will cost around $20 - $30, a lot of the brakes parts like wheel cylinders, masters, shoes etc etc you can find at the autozone, napa etc etc

The Mustang master may not be as good as one from a '67-69 full size Ford drum brake application. Always size the master from a similar size (weight and general proportion too) car.

Aside from that the car should stop well with the 11" drums. The front wheel cylinders are huge on these cars and the shoes are plenty wide.

So here are some pics from last nights adventure...sorry for the ****py iphone pics. I busted two damn exhaust manifold bolt heads so thats when i called it a night...I still need to take the p***enger side off, but they are three damn bolts giving me trouble. Hopefully tonight I can wrench them off with the pursuder bar! :D

I think this was the reason for the blow by.

A 71 ford f250 is a direct bolt on disc/drum MC and it works just fine:D

  6. Wow that's one of the worst looking engines on the inside that I've ever seen....

Having tried almost every imaginable master cylinder on my car, the most important thing is the bore. As long as you get a master cylinder with a 1" bore for manual brakes you will be fine. I have used them off trucks, cars and even different brands. When Ford went to the dual reservoir master cylinder on the 4 wheel drum cars they didn't use a proportioning valve. The bores of the wheel cylinders are different enough that they didn't have to. Just remember the rear port on the master goes to the front brakes and the front port goes to the rear brakes.

Good to know thanks for the tip! I ended up buying a dual master cylinder being so cheap. Found it locally at vatozone. Now that the motor is out I can replace all the brake lines and the motor mounts are shot. So those are being replaced.

Found a killer deal on a running 390 from carb to pan for less than 1000. Everything has checked out on it so that will be dropped in soon.

Pics to come. Also does anyone locally to DFW area know of a windshield installer for these old cars. I really have no interest in destroying the trim around the windshield. :D

Nice wagon and good luck on the build.
I did a lot of work to get my '64 Merc Wagon to be a good daily driver. Also the brake MC and booster, c6 swap, waterpump, wheel bearing, front bushings, lowering, horn switch electric ignition, steering valve, and a lot more.... It was very hard to find all the parts here in Holland.
It still is leaking some oil from the 390 super marauder engine but heee, it's a Ford...
