Anyone know of a truck to get a bench seat out of that will fit well in a '58 Apache? Heard one guy say that an s10 seat is too narrow. Just curious if anyone knows of a seat that fits really well. Thanks, NIK

  2. A '59 Apache

Kidding aside, any '55-'59 Task Force truck used the same seat. I have yet to see or hear of an exact fit of an alternative seat out of any late model. All require some mods, especially in the mounts.

I believe a basic simple standard cab dodge dakota bench seat fits well...

Alittle wider than a S10 bench..

I don't follow. Am a mistaken about year? Were Apache's only in '59?? No problem if any require a little modification or fab. thanks, Nik

  7. I used a 3rd seat out of an Astro Van in my 55, fits real well, had to cut down the seat brackets to get it low. The seat back folds flat onto the seat cushion for rear seat access too.

i had used one from an 88 chevy truck, i did cut down the side mounting brackets as i wanted to sit low in the truck

  10. Pretty much what we did for our 57 Chevy truck. Perfect width and the late model foam is very comfortable.

If you are willing to fabricate I'd say just get a tape measure and check the yards in AZ
(I know they got great ones out there).

You might find the PERFECT bench that no one else has thought of yet-

'88 and up are a good fit just as they are, but I have seen everything from Caddy to FoMoCo stuff to Mopar. Actually, rebuilding the stocker is an adventure in learning upholstery basics, and maybe more advanced techniques, as well. Parts are available for the originals from almost any auto upholstery shop; they're not complicated.

Someone asks about a good junkyard bench seat for an old Ford about every month or so. I was in a couple of junkyards with a tape measure today, so I figured I'd kick off a post with some seat dimensions. If ya'll can add to this - I didn't find a Jeep Wrangler back seat to measure, for example - maybe it'd be a good candidate for tech-o-matic enshrinement. Dig?

Multiple years are usually similar for each vehicle - I just captured dimensions for the model year I found. All measurements are ballpark (climbing into greasy cars balanced precariously on steel wheels and whipping out a tape measure is not an exact science) and taken at the widest point. Anyway:

    '87-'89 Ford Escort rear seat
    Seat back width = 42"
    Seat bottom width = 42"
    Seat back thickness = 3.5"
    (seat back folds forward)

    '90 Dodge Caravan, middle seat?
    Seat back width = 44.5"
    Seat bottom width = 44.5"
    Seat back thickness = 4.5"

    '80s Isuzu Trooper
    Seat back width = 48"
    Seat bottom width = 48"
    Seat back thickness = 3.5"

    '84 Ford Ranger
    Seat back width = 49"
    Seat bottom width = 49"
    Seat back thickness = 3.5"

    '84 Toyota van middle seat
    Seat back width = 34"
    Seat bottom width = 36"
    Seat back thickness = 4.5"

    '91 Ford Festiva
    Seat back width = 38"
Seat bottom width = 48" (odd shape is fitted to wheel wells)
    Seat back thickness = 3.5"

    '89 Ford Aerostar middle seat
    Seat back width = 39"
Seat bottom width = 46" (odd shape)
    Seat back thickness = 4.5"

I also checked out some Chevy/Geo/Sprint/whatever stuff. The seat backs are comparable to the Ford escort, but the seat bottoms have exaggerated curves around the wheel wells that would likely require modification of the frame - at which point taking a vertical section out of a Ford Ranger bench would probably be easier...

I just picked up a early model S10 bench seat so here are the measurements, all done at the widest points.

'91 Chevy S10 pickup bench seat
    Seat back width = 48"
    Seat back width = 5.5"
    Seat bottom width = 49.75"
    Seat bottom thickness = 6"
The seat would bolt to a flat floor, with the frame the bottom cushon at highest point looks to be 9.5" high. Bottom cushon has two holes for seatbelts to pass through.

    By flat ernie:
OK - Wrangler stuff (pretty small - maybe good for Model A)

    Seat Back Width - 32.5"
Seat Back Height - 15.5" (from hinge)
    Seat Back Thickness - 5"
    Seat Bottom Width - 33.5"
Seat Bottom Thickness - 5" (at bolster)
Seat Bottom Depth - 15.5" (front to back)

    suzuki samurai rear seat dimensions

    seat width 34"
seat back height 17" (from hinge)
ass cushion thing length (from hinge) 16"

sorry, but i didn't get the seat thickness... judging by the smell and other clues, i think something is living in the truck and i had to crawl over the engine with no shirt on with mosquitos everywhere to get the dimensions. ugh. and that's not even mentioning tracking through the bush to get to the truck... that was the worst part. sorry about the rant, but if it really matters to one of you HAMB folks i can go back out and get the thickness. i'll go put a shirt on this time if you like.

anyway, back folds forward. seat is fully removable. heck, i should keep the back seat just in case before i give the truck away!

    Ressurecting an old topic:
Found one that mounts to the floor in a severely channeled 26-27 T ....90's Isuzu Amigo back seat.
    SEAT BACK 39"x21"x3"
    SEAT BOTTOM 39"x20.5"x8"
Seat folds forward and the "folded seat" folds forward again! Has headrest but I'm yankin' mine out and recovering ala Mexican Blanket

I have a Monte Carlo seat in mine, early 70's I think. It fits well but it sits pretty low. I have a 60 Caddy wheel and I had to cut it at 10 and 2 so I could see

There was an article in Classic Trucks a while back. That is were I got my inspiration a 89-through 90's Chevy Full Size Truck is used. If you unbolt the bottom bracket and pie cut it about two to three inches in rear bracket. Only V cut front of seat frame bracket that mounts to floor, not all the way through just enough to pull down at rear, you will have to measure so you can get the top of seat below rear window ( I have small window cab) added benefit the seat leans back more if done this way. With my tilt out of mid eghties van it fit perfect way better than the after market seats plus LMC sells the seat upholstery kits in different materials, zips on top of seat cushion and snappes using plastic on bottom easy as hell to install. I am waiting on some one inch thick by 24 " X 60" high dinsity foam just to build up the seat a little.

wow. I sure thought that an 89-90's full size seat would be too wide. I hope not, i found an 89 full size seat on the cheap. Need to just pull some measurements. Seems that a full size chevy truck seat would hang over the steps in the truck. Any of you guys have a picture of one of these seats in a '58 or '59? Do the steps on a 58 or 59 come further into the cab than a 57 and earlier?

'55-'59 cabs are all the same. I've seen the full size '88-'98 seats and they fit well and don't look too modern.

  20. 88-98 seat is just a tad wider than stock. The factory seat riser on the late model seat bolts into the floor just shy of the factory step well on each side.
Rude Dude and Terd F hit the nail on the head. I thru a blanket over mine and it looks like it has always been there.

Try a 3rd row out of a 01-16 suburban they have seat belts built in wich is real nice. Or the 88-98 bench seat truck.
