Shaved door handles for under 200?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by thechondro, Mar 30, 2010.

  1. One of my pinstriping customers told me that they have good shaved door handle kits for like $150 I didnt really believe him since I was quoted a hefty $500:eek: (which sounded really high to me.) Is $150 real? Or is he blowin smoke? Thanks in advance!

You can do it yourself and get bike or marine throttle cables and mount a pull inside the front fender for about $40. And that's the Deluxe kit. The Super Deluxe kit comes with door poppers and a twelve pack for an even $100.

If you had power windows you could run a wire with a switch to the battery..cheap and easy

Same here. Autoloc usually isn't that bad, nor is SPAL as stated above.

This is exactly what i have and the 40lbs have allot of power so i think 40lb should be fine but i am not sure!!! my 2 cents dont pay all the extra money for the name of autolock!! this spal kit has a internal relay built in and the spal kit you have to run your own relay!!!

  17. U mean u have to run one on the autoloc kit carlos?

I'd say you're on your own for "emergency latches"...run a thin plasticized cable from the latch (inside) thru the hinge area to under the hood at the front fender...there's your "emergency latches" and you won't have spent more than $5 for that...!!!

I think I had around a $150 for my spal kit. Enough for 2 doors, and 2 keyrings. Only problem I had was when it got cold the grease in my latches got thick and the solenoid wouldnt pull em. It only took one time.... I learned leave the vent wing unlocked. I think I had to buy the spring loaded pusher things seperate. Still have under 2 bills in it though.

  24. i don't like autolock so much...had problems with the solenoids falling apart

You can buy a decent kit for about $150 . Auto-lock is very costly but don't think their kits are any better than the ones for less than $200 .
Always install a safety cable in case the lock doesn't work or the battery dies on you ! You can mount them under your hood or cut a piece out of your fender well and hid the cable & handle there . Then install a larger piece to cover the hole and just use wing nuts to hold the cover in place . That way it protects the cable and handle and is out of site ! Easy fix .

I have the ebay SPAL kit on my 54 GMC. I paid $86 and that was with shipping. 8 channels, internal relay. Easy to install. I'm using bicycle brake line for the back up. Kit not only came with the remote, but a button to hide as well. Mine is the same one Speedway sells for $150+
