DONE! freekin' San Francisco Board of Supes won't be happy till they chase ALL cars out of town. The bicycle Nazis are takin' over.
Bump for the evening crew... This is a great little local show for a very good cause. Time to stuff the ballot box guys and gals!
signed... i grew up in the peninsula, typical SF bullshit. cars are the least of GG parks concerns. what about Lincoln and 19th? ...or how about near Haight.... those a noisy fuckin streets.
JMO..i dont think signing a pettition is going to bring this back from what ive read..it sounds like they got their mind made up.. and its a stupid move in this economy..they stand to lose and lose alot of money..all worried about the impact cars have sitting on grass..how lame can someone be? this will also impact local buisiness..those people should also be pissed one day or a weekend on some grass isnt going to kill it for life..some tree hugger got involved and screwed us car guys..thats it in a nut shell, and it seems like alot more of this is going on these days, and more will probably be coming. all any radical has to do is say.."its impacting the environment"..and its over. and unless the community gets involved against the one person who screwed it up and out him in the public venue of how this will impact everyone economically in that area..it will continue. one day our public parks will no longer be "public" there is a good sized show up here in ohio that alot of cars attend..and sit on the grass for 2 days..that grass is still green and still going strong..where is this impact study?..if i were directly involved in this..i would be asking for proof, and backing up this argument with proof other venues dont have this issue someone needs to make the one who made this decission..the bad guy..and put it in the paper..how they are screwing the kids..make it public knowledge..and put pressure on them that way...they played dirty..time for payback these developmentally disabled kids..are getting the screws put to them..and that aint right.. anyone know who is the road block..?..a name? you gotta fight fire with fire
Hey Von Rigg Fink, You are absolutely right. I don't think the petition alone will save the event but the organizers are trying to build a case and are working to get the event on the meeting agenda for an upcoming SF Rec & Park Dept Commission meeting. The signatures and letters will help them greatly. They are also asking folks to attend the meeting if they can. See more info reposted below. ****repost from Jimmy's Old Car Picnic Facebook Fan Page**** Here's how you can help save Jimmy's Old Car Picnic in Golden Gate Park! Save the date of Thursday, 2/18, 2:00 pm--City Hall, Rm 216 for the SF Rec & Park Dept Commission meeting. We plan to get the Picnic on this meeting's agenda and our team will present its case! If you are free, come on out!! If you cannot make it, please write a letter about what you would have said and send it to us. We are asking people to send letters of support to the Mayor, the Board of Supervisors, and the Park Commission. Be sure to copy us at savejimmyspicnic@gmail.com so we can track the letters and make sure our voices are heard! **** Their blogspot www.jimmyspicnic.blogspot.com has sample letters and addresses to city officials who they are reaching out to. Also, to answer your question, and I am not 100% on this answer because the organizers have not directly named anyone but from what I gather, I am guessing the San Francisco Recreation and Park Commissioners are the folks responsible for denying the permit. These addresses/names were pulled from www.jimmyspicnic.blogspot.com San Francisco Recreation and Park Commissioners: Mark Buell (president) Tom Harrison (vice-president) Gloria Bonilla Michael Sullivan David E. Lee Larry Martin 501 Stanyan Street San Francisco, CA 94117 Telephone: 415-831-2750 FAX: 415-221-8034 e-Mail: recpark.commission@sfgov.org
Thanks for posting this and for all of your support! We are kind of at a standstill with the City government, but you can check out our blog at www.jimmyspicnic.blogspot for updates. We haven't given up yet!
