I have a tall edelbrock on my new flatty that I just installed in my 40 Ford pickup. The truck has stock gas pedal ***embly which is a little too low for the tall intake. So the angles are not optimal. Further, I bought a stock linkage rod (from carb to gas pedal ***embly) and just shortened it which now fits nicely... but works like chit. The spring loaded ends on the stock type linkage rod make the gas pedal feel spongy for the first inch or two. I figure putting a tall intake on a flathead in a 40 Ford is pretty routine for you guys so who has a SIMPLE and effective solution suggestion? I like to stay simple and use as much stock parts as possible but this time it just don't work well. Thanks.

Try hooking up to the bottom of the carbs. This is my 48 Merc with early block letter Edelbrock hi-rise. I hope the picture shows how they did it years ago.

I think the cheapest way to go may be to extend the pedal linkage vertically to lessen the angle or eliminate it. Then the carb linkage arm could run horizontally.

Stiffer springs may help the sponge feel.

A better looking solution may be to build a custom linkage system. Linkage rod runs horizontal to a pivot mounted on the intake straight below the carb. Then off the pivot you run a linkage arm up to the carb.

    Good luck!

I have my two carbs hooked together with a linkage and the throttle linkage is attached to the side of the carburators' linkage. The attachment point is farther forward than what you have on yours now. Tough for me to explain; I will look for a picture.

Found a picture. Not easy to see but where my throttle linkage attaches between the carbs is farther ahead. If you moved the point where you attach to the carbs as far forward as you can would help the angles.

OK, so nobody else has this problem... I think most old Fords have this same or similar gas pedal ***embly so if you're running a high rise dual intake, you had to solve this problem somehow...

Angle might be OK if I could get rid of the spongy feeling...How about a source for some linkage that fits on the balls of the carbs and gas pedal arm but does not have the springy attachment style. Something that connects to the ball more firmly... anyone?

jody, i think this what you are looking for as for linkage. it will easily go from your ball end from pedal to ball end on carb. as for getting the angle you want you may need to get a little crafty with your firewall linkage, like adding a little length to it maybe. i believe i got this linkage from the early ford store. i cant remember where they are, southern ca area. i'm sure they have longer ones for super dual applications. you may want to try connecting to the front carb. it may decrease your angle.

Thanks J_ripper, so those don't have the springs inside and they fit snugly? I've seen those but wasn't sure if they had the springy ends... I'll find em somewhere, thanks.

they do have small strong springs in them, but you are able to crank em down with the outer adjustment. think of it as a mini ball socket drag link or tie rod.

I got my linkage from Exeter Auto Supply. He is an Alliance vendor. Just like j ripper is showing.
