After spending hours here looking at "The history of Los Angeles" thread and "Vintage hots of days gone by"... I'd really love to see some Austin or Texas drag racing and street scenes of yesteryear. If you know the location and approximate date of your pics, please let us know. Unfortunately I don't have any personal photos or family pics based in Texas, but to keep this thread from being pointless, I was able to find a couple on the web... though not many. I'm looking forward to possibly seeing some familiar landmarks. Waco, Texas - Austin Avenue late 50's: Found on this great little blogspot... it's worth a peek! http://hechointexas.blogspot.com/2008/04/big-spring-texas-1950s-drag-racing.html Big Spring, Texas - Early 50's: Lawrence Jones behind the ice cream company he worked for in Austin in 1940. The University of Texas tower is visible at top right. -from Brent Jones collection
A bump with a pic. I-35 construction at 6th street. Those pillars on the right is the overp*** parking area where the derelicts and vagrants intimidate college kids into watching their cars while they're away from them for cash lol...
I really like history of Los Angeles thread and hope this thread takes off. I would love to see some images of places I've actually been to. I tried with the history of Dallas thread but it didn't go too far. Wish I had some photos to contribute but I don't Good luck.
Thanks man, I feel the same as you. I thoroughly enjoyed the other threads but would love to see some familiar scenery.
Glad you liked my blog. Its my little corner on the web and hope you guys like it. Stay in tune I have some great drag racing history from Austin to post in the next few days. These are a few pics from friends, stuff I snapped 3 years ago and a few off the net. Enjoy! G.M. Steak house. used to be across from Capitol Chevy on South Lamar and corner of west 5th. Sitting there you could check out all the Impalas and other chevys from the window in the 60s. Loop 360 This was a street racing spot in the 70s and 80s. My favorite hangout as a kid back in the 80s. Frans on Congress. This is about where the roundup cruise starts going downtown On west 6th since the 50s. Great place for burgers. Downtown IH35 before the over p*** South lamar Congress and west 2nd The old airport on IH35

I've got some great photos from my grandfather's and friend's racing days. Some really good photos of the Kurtis Kraft they raced back in the early 50's.
Aarons auto salvage in the '70s '80s. Aint Nothing nova. 1980s -Heres another shot of friends over looking the west lake area around Barton Creek. These were very fast nitrous infected cars lol! The thing to do...Just about everybody does this when going out and taking photos of your own car.
When they widened Ben White they bulldozed that entire stretch -Ivy Trail RIP-. The only thing I could see still standing is the roof of Dan's Hamburgers, which is now on the frontage road at Manchaca. Here it is circled in red.
IH35 crossing the trickle of the Colorado (before Longhorn Dam). Festival Beach is to the right, site of Drag Boat Races and Lonestar Roundups. Here's a thread with lots of Austin images: http://forum.skys****erpage.com/showthread.php?t=173080
What's that in the lower right of the pic in post #2? I see big ol' chrome dual pipes sticking out under the back bumper and the rear end looks very low.
