Hey guys. I ran across a Devin body race car body today. It's really rough, but I think fixable. It's been chopped in half for storage. Sorry, no pictures. I didn't have my camera. I'm trying to save it from certain destruction. Are these things worth anything? I know that they are really rare, and I think I can get a good price on it. I don't want to keep it. But I would like to save it and p*** it on to someone that wants it. I just don't want to overpay and be stuck with it. Any idea on a fair price?
I know they are all over the board on price, obviously race history adds a lot of value and the original engine config adds value depending on what it had - a SBC vs VW for example. If the engine is gone, I don't know if you can tell what it had? I have seen them under 10k and over 100k. They are neat, I think Jalopy Journal had a write up about them not too long ago.
its worth saving thats about all i can say if your going to turn it pay as little as possible if your going to keep it get a price where both of you feel like you got screwed and oyu will be ok tk
It's just a body. No frame or anything. It's been dis***embled since the late seventies. It's the front engine set up.
yeah, I'm not really trying to turn a profit. Just save it. I'm gonna offer him a few hundred and see what he says.
Cool thanks. I mainly don't want to piss him off by low balling him. If it was worth 10,000 in really ****py shape and I offer him $200 and he telsl me to get losted and tosses it. well that would ****.
What are his options sell it to you for a accepted price. For him to sell it to some one else if he wants to do the leg work. Or trash it. His body his call. Whats certain destruction?
Just from your opening post I doubt that you'll offer him enough to get it. Sounds like the kind of project that need some p***ion behind it to make this deal and in this case it should be the guy who is going to bring it back not an inbetween man. Frank
From what I know they were made for several differant ch***is, differant wheel bases. Ask Metalshapes, I think he has one. Save it if you can.
Well, it's currently sitting in a pile of chopped up junk fibergl*** boats. I went and bought an engine/outdrive from him and noticed the body. I asked about it. he told me what it was and how long it had been there. He said make me an offer. I'm "clean up" I think if I don't get it, no one else will. I agree I definitely don't have the drive for rebuilding it. But I think the old timer is starting to like me. I helped him move some stuff around the property and spent a day with him just hanging out and shooting the ****. I just want to save it.
what is that a joke? lots of projects would never see the light of day if it were not for the "inbetween man" And as far as p***ion it sounds like he has plenty, for even thinking about making it available to a person that would want it.
I don't think so. He just had a bunch of boats he was parting out. If you were from the PAC. NW you would know that this is where old boats come to die. I think he was just tired of tripping over the devin body and figured it could go with the rest of the fibergl*** when it gets hauled out of there.
As far as fibergl*** goes, I'm not sure if it's being recycled in your area, if not the landfill gets it
I dont have one. But I knew one that got sold 14 years ago for $350. It was rough too( also just a bare body), I brought it to the new owner and parts started ripping and falling off on the way over there. And if I remember correctly, it was missing the trunklid. It had been on a Triumph ch***is.
Metalshapes, you seem to have a bunch of other cool road race cars, I thought I membered you haveing one of these. Whatever, it shouldn't be dumpster food.
There are several different types. I had one years ago that turned into college tuition money for my daughter. The doors came in different lengths to fit different wheelbase ch***is. Run an ad her on the HAMB or supprise yourself with an eBay auction.
Looks to be a Corvair ch***is Devin SS. The Corvette ch***is Devin SS is a lot longer. There was a running Corvair Devin at IOLA swap about 10 years ago, and it was for sale for $3,500. It was the same as the picture above, but red in color. I was thinking of making an offer, and I wish I would have!
we'll talk and Just so everyone is clear. TMAN pm'ed me first about this and has first right at refusal.
@canadacl*** As far as I know It's still sitting right were I saw it last. he won't part with it. I'll just buy it at his estate sale in 20 years along with all the other **** he's got that I want.
Some guys have a real problem with folks who save and flip cars for some bizarre reason, they don't seem to understand that without those guys a lot of cars would otherwise just get s****ped and the rest would get priced out of the ability of the average joe that doesn't have money falling out of his *** to have a project of some sort.
