Got an AOD from an 89 F150. It has reverse, 1st and 2nd. Won't shift out of second. The fluid was kinda dirty and smelled slightly burnt. So we changed it and while it was apart, we took the valve body off and picked it. Found a few sticky valves that we unstuck. Still doesn't shift. Any ideas? Thanks. -Jeff
There is a servo in there that controls the 3-4 shift into overdrive. I've heard that if they go bad, they make the trans act wacky, like it needs a rebuild...but in reality it's a $40.00 part...maybe this is the cause of your problems?
You may also want to double check your TV cable. If its not adjusted right, it can burn up your trans. Good Luck
I broke the clip on my tv cable in an 88 Merc and it would only shift out of second if I drove it shifted down one notch, and I had to over rev before it made the shift.
I've been running an AOD in my 52 for about 4 years now. Don't use a Tv cable on it. Only thing I have to remember is when I back up, drop into low first then back up to the o/d position. I did notice right off, if this isn't done, ****** will not shift out of 2nd. Course, remedy to this is to use the cable, but I'm to lazy to hook one up.
If we monkey with the cable and it doesn't help, could it maybe be governer related? We never took that out and looked at it. Thanks. -Jeff
