  3. I thought I already told folks about these two cars in a previous post, but that might've been over on 3-wide.

    Here we go.

The #28 coach was built at Billy Young's shop which is on Shear Rd. in West Sand Lake within shouting distance of Tremont's shop.

It was a Bob Rossell chassis that was built for Tommy Correllis. After Tommy left to drive for Joe Leto, Butch took over, still as the #28. I'm pretty sure Young got outa' racing and the #28 went to Butch and then became the "X".

The Tremont #115 coach is a totally different car. Tremont built this and it was driven by Chuck Ely, who I believe is a relative of Butch. Then Tremont built the #115 Pinto that used a Profile chassis.

Dave Leckonby was working at Tremont's garage and when the coach set idle, Dave put a small block Chevy in it, added the L to the #115 and went racing in the 2nd division at the Valley. Some along here I think Kathy Tremont drove the coach too.

SO, although the #28/"X" and the #115 look like the same cars, they aren't.

Look at the pictures and you'll see the front down tubes, which were later added to both cars. They aren't the same, different angles. Originally both cars were built without those tubes and were Flexi-Flyers.

Maybe I wasn't clear or you misunderstood ... thanks for the information ... but I was well aware that the #115 and the #28 were two different cars. I saw them both run at Lebanon back then. My question was really wondering if there were tw #28 cars. I understand that bodies on race cars change and all that ... but the #28 in my (out of focus) photo and the other one posted have some differences and that was the reason for the question about possibly there being two #28 coaches.

If the #28 became the #X after the owner (Young) got out of it then how come the #X has no down tubes and my photo of Jelley in the #28 at Lebanon in '74 has downtubes?

I'm not argueing, I'm just interested in the history and lineage of all kinds of race cars.

  7. Now, ya' have me on that one. I'll have to do some more homework.

I only remember one #28 coach and one #115 coach.

But after looking at the picks closer, it almost looks like the "X" coach is the #115 coach and not the #28 coach.

So, if you remember, I said I thought Butch got the #28 from Young. But maybe he didn't. Maybe he got the #115 and relettered it the "X", because the "X" paint scheme looks like the #115. And with Chuck being related to Butch, that would make sense.

That would mean after Butch finished with the "X", it went back to Tremont, was re-lettered #115 again and driven by "Leck" and/or Kathy Tremont.

This is making my head hurt.

But, I'm gonna' get some answers to solve this. Standby  .

Again, Harold Seaman comes through with the info..

The Pete Grodski #4 was kind of a clone.

As the Jarzombek Vega was being built, Grodski would come down to their shop with a tape measure .. take measurements .. then go back to his own place & work on the car he was building.

Definately Artie Tappen 14 and Ed Brunnhoelzl 333. I think Cliff Tyler 21 and no clue in the 15, it doesn't look like any Bill Spade car that I remember.

That's what I was saying originally ... that the X and the 115 might have been the same car.

But ... aside from and excluding the 115-X ... I was also wondering if there were two #28 coaches. It seems to me that somewhere I saw a photo of two #28 coaches side-by-side in the pits at Lebanon.

All this stuff is racing history and worthy of study and questioning.

Looking forward to what you find out.

    Joel

    MARK YOUR CALENDARS !!!!

The date is set for the 5h Annual Warren Township (NJ) Antique/Classic/Race Car/Motorcycle Show !!!

Sunday, September 12th .... (Rain Date Sunday, September 19th)
    http://www.warrennjcarshow.org/

Famous midget, sprint car, champ car owner .. of days gone by .. Ken Brenn has A LOT to do with the race car portion of this show.

If you have a vintage race car, antique car, custom car, hot rod, show car, muscle car, truck, motorcycle, truck, fire engine, etc., etc., etc. that you enjoy, that your proud of here's the place to show it. Same goes if you enjoy these vehicles & the people associated with them .. it will be a wonderful way to spend a day.

I went last year & had an absolutely GRRRRRREAT time. It was a fantastic way (for me) to see so many folks from different forms of racing, that I hadn't seen for all too many, many years .. as well as renew aquaintances with some that I do see, but all too infrequently .. meet others that I've long admired .. plus enjoy the cars too.

Those with vintage race cars of ANY kind .. if you would like to talk to Ken Brenn about the show Private Message (PM) or eMail me and I'll forward you Ken Brenn's home phone number.

Many of you HAMBer's have race cars &/or vehicles of all sorts that I'd love to see there. Even if you don't have a car to proudly show, but you enjoy them &/or the people associated with them as I do .. it's THE place to be if your from the North East on September 12th.

I HOPE TO SEE 'YA THERE !!!!!!!

The track looks banked and I don't remember there ever being a guard rail like that there .. plus there never were lights, so I'm guessing that it's not the Bridgehampton (NY) road course.

    (Yes, they ran there.)
