Would You Take A '53 Pontiac or Wait For Chevy?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Arrowood Rod & Kustom, Apr 3, 2010.

  1. Man, get it !! The Poncho's are so rare compared to a chevy. The cool trim on these is the most hip going. It kills me when dudes remove that bad ass ribbed trim from hood and deck. Check out todays slab side, no trim, all look alike cars and appreciate all that stainless and chrome. It would be so cool with a small block Pontiac in it. I dig the Chevy's a bunch, but this car is the bomb. I will give ya $1,50.00 for it in a heart beat. Don't let this get away from you, you will look back and say, hot damn, I Scored!!! Just my humble opinion!! ~Sololobo~ p.s. Listen up to Brandy, this chick knows her tin!!

STOP!!! Wait a minute! You said you're gonna chop, section etc. etc., and you're worried about a dent! Please don't start cutting up that nice old car if a dent scares you.

chevy, being bottom of the GM totem pole, should be a step down from pontiac. id take that poncho in a heartbeat over a chevy. not to knock a good chebby but i can throw a rock and hit a few 52-57 chevys :D

I think you are talking about 2 different cars from GM,they made an american pontiac and a canadian pontiac, one was made in Detroit Michigan and one was made in Windsor Ontario, the US one was much bigger then the canadian one,the canadian one was the same size and looked likethe chevy, the US one was longer with different back end, canada made different pontiacs then the US(Canso,Acadian,Parisienne)and they ALL had chevy engines in them.

If a Chevy is what you want, a Chevy is what you should buy.

  8. Fuck! I would take the Poncho over the Chev every day of the week, they have character not just another one like the many Chev's that are all over the place.
    Doc.

  9. lol the dent doesnt scare me I was just throwing it out there to see if they were the same trunk because I've seen the Chevy trunks for $100, I can cut and weld, bag and all that but havent got the hang of hammering and dolley for some reason but my buddys a body man so I'm set...trust me the car will be bitchin whatever we end up doing

  10. just called the guy I'll be stoping over there to take a look and get more picts in about an hour..we'll see how it goes if I throw an offer out and he takes it..car might be sitting in my driveway tonight

Nice score. I would rather have a Poncho than a Chevy anyway. Looks like you have alot of work ahead of you, good luck.

  16. You're not going to make a typical 21st century over chopped primered wad out of this very nice car, are you? I've seen enough poorly chopped cars in the last few years that I believe that you should have to pass a taste test to purchase a SawsAll.

I think you should wait on the Chevy you want. Anyone who can't appreciate the Pontiac in lieu of the Chevy really should not bother with the Pontiac. Leave the Pontiac for those of us who can appreciate it and use it as a Pontiac and not turn it into a Pontilet or Chevriac...whichever name you prefer.

  18. no way, it will be a nice chop probably 3.5'' and this car will be shot in all ppg paint and clear, if you look at the cars I've built in the last 4 years I dont built the shitty rat rod looking cars

I guess....get and build whatever you really
want, but to my mind, the Pontiac has got
all over a simillar year Chevy, both in rarity
and desireability. I'd build that '53 Pontiac
in hearbeat and wouldn't look back! As a
mild custom, it'd could be really unique
    and very, very classy!

  20. Good decision!
It will be a very cool car if not overdone.
I hope go run into you sometime this summer and look forward to updates.

  21. Will still trade two '54 Chevy 2-door sedans even -

PLEASE LISTEN! Okay, repair all the damage first - rust repair, replace floors, etc. STOP, STEP BACK, and LOOK.

Those taillights are already custom, and the proportion of a car that has a little longer wheelbase might look better without a chop.

I say this because I wanted to chop my 50 Chevy for the longest time. Now that I'm done with all the rust repair and bodywork, the stock top has grown on me. Plus, if you spend all your time, money, and effort chopping it first - you might get burnt out on something that still needs all the rust fixed.

Plan wisely, it's a nice car.

Take a look at what flop did to his Poncho he has a post that has to be 100 pages long by now. You know I have 53 chevy but I like the pontiacs as well they are both great cars and I believe you will be happy with it.

  26. The Pontiac is way more ornate than the Chevy. Most people forget, Chevy was the cheapest, entry level car that GM offered. Why some of them are such a big deal is kinda weird. Oh, if you do get the Pontiac, don't shave all that cool stainless

I agree with Wicked50coupe. 3.5" chop is pretty severe for this car. A subtle chop on these can look really nice. I have seen some chopped JUST enough to look different but not too much to where proportions look off. Have fun with her man! I was THIS close to buying one once for a steal..............2nd biggest mistake of my life :0
