Projects Another HAMB Barn FInd

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by vintageauto, Apr 2, 2010.

  1. There it goes on the way to a new home. I had this 40 4-door tucked away in my barn for a couple of years. It had a good body when I found it and I hoped to do it since I didn't have a Coupe...Well I have a Coupe now..so the sedan was avaialble. This was an old Hot Rod as well. We determind that it had an Olds engine, flathead toploader Transmission and retained the Banjo Rear....KOOL!
I bought some parts here on the HAMB from Skidmarks, we got to talkin and the next thing you know, we struck a deal.
So, the HAMB has produced another happy ending for a 40 Ford that will see the road again very soon. Have fun Charlie.
Take a look at the pics of the event.

not zactly a find if it was in your barn.

  4. LOL...Skidmarks found it there...don't get so technical.

  5. I think the moral of the story was that he sold a "going to get to it some day" project to someone...and it was in a barn, and Skidmarks found it:rolleyes:

Funny how time changes our minds. I have bought and sold many 40's over the years [own two now] but never even gave fourdoors a second look except as parts cars. Now I can envision a really neat fourdoor. Good luck with your coupe.

Nice sedan! I think as some or most of us get up in the years, wisdom and family come into play with cars. In particular, four doors. When I was younger, a four door wouldn't get a p***ing glance. I have a T bucket now and I'm single, but if I had a wife and children, a four door would be the logical choice.

Think about it, what was more fun than piling your buddies in a car and going for a cruise? Can't do that in a coupe or roadster. Drop that sedan and install a trouble free power plant and motor on.

  11. C, Glad you like the 40! Can't wait to see what you do with it. Why not make it a build thread here?

I never thought about it until now. Do any of you who are always calling for a car to be traditional realize this. A 4dr is NOT TRADITIONAL. Cpes, roadsters even 2 drs are but not a 4dr.

Better give it some more thought. Depends on how "traditional" ya wanna get. 2-door sedans?...not so long ago, they weren't. Coupes?...go back far enough, and they weren't even considered. Time changes things. For as old as these cars are getting, some 4-doors are startin' to look pretty attractive. A '40 Ford is one of 'em...I've seen some nice ones. Besides...there were quite a few young guys sportin' 4-doors way-back-when, who might not've been able to afford a 2-door, coupe, or roadster. No shame in a 4-door.

Look in any Montgomery book or land racing photo. Lots of 4 doors as push cars, spectator cars, tow cars...can't get much more traditional then that

Your right in that "times changes things" This was directed at those who think things should remain as they believe things were in the 50's and earlier. How do they know these things? They read books or look at pictures because they are so young they weren't even thought of yet. In many cases mom and dad weren't even around then. Also look at post #15. That's the way I remember it also. I didn't mean to put this 40 down, just pointing out to the traditionalists that back then a 4 dr wasn't considered cool. As you say times change and today a lot of people like them and not a 2 dr. But that still does not make a 4 dr traditional. The style it's done in may be traditional a 4 dr itself isn't. We're talking rods and customs here not push cars or spectators cars

I'm old enough to remember that "coups are for chickens".

  20. Hey Phat....looks like you opened a can of words with your Traditional comment. While I respect your opinion, but before you offer those kind of fighting words?
I'm sure your 41 COUPE is nice, BUT what is considered traditional about a 454 with a 700R transmission?..I'm just sayin...

As I said the comment was for those who beat the traditional drum. I don't beat that drum. I just expressed what many guys thought back then and by that I'm talking of guys who are now 65+. Is a 454/700R traditional? No. But the look of the car is, in the opinion of many, a timeless look. It's a great road car and I've put as many as 1200 mi on it in one day more than once and 8,000 mi in 4 weeks. One last thing this car was built before there was such a thing as the Hamb. The build was started in 92 and finished in the spring of 97. Since then the car has created it's own history. Street Rodder, Rod and Custom, Street Rodder television, Ego-Rama and in the winners circle of both Goodguys and NSRA

  22. Whatever...Fact is, that the word traditional was not mentioned in the thread at all...till your post, so I really don't know why you brought it up.
No need to answer. Again, I respect your opinion.

If anyone can take a close look at a '39 Deluxe 4dr dumped hard in the front with an early Caddy hooked to a top loader having whitewalls, black wheels and small caps and white tuck and roll interior and not say "HOT ROD" should have their pulse checked.

    Phat Rat,
check out Hop Up volume III page 38/39.

That was a real ***** move to jump on here and start tellin the poor guy his car aint ****. He obviously just got it and is excited... and should be. That car looks to be in great shape and should be a great driver. Not everyone can own a 40 drop top or coupe...but a clean fordor, **** I'd drive one.

I just like em all. Early Fords that is. I wouldn't run someone off just because their car has a couple extra doors.

Those who think I was putting this car down are reading something I didn't mean. If you read it I said that BACK THEN 4 drs were not cool. It came across entirely different than I meant it. Times change and peoples opinions change. I thought that with the good comments it was a opportune time to point out that 4 drs are not really traditional. Maybe this will clarify what I meant. Just because a car isn't purely traditional doesn't mean it can't be a nice car, hot rod or whatever label you want to attach to it. That doesn't mean it I think it isn't a hot rod. So to vintageauto and skidmarks I apologise for offending you. Scarrylarry, whatever you want to call it. As far as Jalopy Showdown I know of cars very similiar to mine who have been accepted there. It has been to Billet Proof and Symco Shakedown
