Its hard to believe that a week ago I was setting up at the Autorama... made new friends and met some old ones... great event but being in the artists Alley and not with my cars wasn't the best plan... but I heard they were well recieved... someone did comment on me building a 50's style ride 37 years ago when Resto Rods were the rage... anyways one of the highlights of the event was having the 27 striped even though the final plans call for paint... Jon Harrow did his best to make me want to leave it in bare metal a little longer

The combination of black & bone white on bare metal really stands out... hard to get good pixs...

DON'T you dare paint that rod! It deserves to be nekkid for a while.

Carrie's tin work needs to breathe, right?

Chime in boys... we should do a poll on this rod- Paint or Bare?

Thom, The striping was right on for the '27. Ever considered just shooting clear over the bare metal ?

Would you believe I only have a couple pictures of the cars without someone in them... Buffalo Bill is responsible for the leather helmit that you see in several shots... the cars at closing time... and Captain Scarlet chatting with Speedy Bill about his years racing cars like these... he stated he didn't recognize it but he might have race against it...

Thom, Of all the shots in this thread, there are two that are killer to me ! The first is Buffalo Bill at the controls and the other is the one with Speedy Bill. Definitely frameable materiel.

  19. Wow, just been going over this whole thread, awesome design & execution, great work.

    Some quick simple questions,
    1. what are you aiming to do in regards to the exhaust?
    2. love the belly pan etc, what is the size of each louver (length x width x height), and what size of spacing (between each louver, centre to centre, row to row)?

Keep swinging at it, great to see this car evolve, with great results.

    Cheers,

    Drewfus:)

The exhaust will be individual tubes dropping into a 36 Ford driveshaft... the rare Fenton headers are neat but SCTA rules required a hood and I can't see trying to do a bubble for the exhaust manifolds... plus snaking the exhaust pipes between the louvered floor and belly pan would put a lot of heat inside the car...

The louvers are two inches... if you flex a sheet of metal... then flex one with three inch louvers - the louvers weaken it... then flex one with two inch louvers - the louvers stregthen it almost like a bead roll... plus the floor and lower pan panels are 16 ga while the hood and side panels are 18 ga so it will take a little abuse...

Louver dies dictate minimum spacing... changing your center guide lines for more distance between rows is easy but when laying out the panels I use the minimum between louvers because it is easier to follow the guide line and hold the die against the last louver... hope this helps

I just spoke to a fellow who has 1959 Russetta tags for a Streamliner #90 going 114 on 6-21-59 and 138 on 5-24-59... do anyone have any info on that car or know why the background colors were differant? one color for fast personal time and another color for fast class time at the event?

Thom, Love the shot from down low of the rear of the car. Quite a nice detail shot.

  23. I am so glad to see this thread. I was at the Autorama and this was hands down my favorite car there. I am anxious to see it unfold.

I didn't get to spend much time with the car at the show... I would have enjoyed feedback and suggestions... it started off as a father & son project... only I waited until he had more going on in life than time - so I would suggest starting projects before they have thier driver lic... he was at Autorama for a photo op

Thom, Whenever you finish this one I hope your goal would be the Father's Day Roadster Show in Pomona ! Would like an up close and personal shot of this one. First cold one is on me.

Father's Day Roadster Show was my first car show with the 33 and I'd love to take the 27 too... drivable wouldn't be an issue by then but paint is required... so as much as I can dream about a left coast appearance, I'll enjoy taking the 27 to the Cleveland Chopper's Car Show this Fri-Sat-Sun at the North Olmsted Soccer Plex in North Olmsted Ohio

The Chopprs Club has been around since 56 so they know how to do a 60's Show
