Went to my mother's house in Southern Indiana this weekend to get a few parts off my parts cars before selling them off for s****. I have 2 1950 sedan deliveries one Chevy and one Pontiac. I stripped all of the trim and good parts years ago. I need some headliner bow supports for my forever project. There was also a set of taillights on the Pontiac that were neat and different than the ones used on the Chevy. They lights were the only thing I wanted from the Pontiac. Well they were gone. The cars had set in the same spots for nearly 30 years. Awhile back someone asked about buying them and my Mom said NFS. I guess the moral is you say NFS ***ume the person may come back and steal the item. Should have pulled them long ago. My bad. A set of Chevy taillights sold on ebay recently for 250.00. I feel better now.
I'm glad you held on to those sedan deliveries for 3 decades and chased away all of those silly buyers for 30 years while the cars rotted so you could save them to give to the crusher. How dare someone liberate those tailights!
Were they out in a field or something? How can something you own be gone without you knowing it? Keep your stuff where you can lay eyes on it.
Answer is if you keep your **** several hours away, you'll never know what's missing. Sedan deliveries don't grow on trees, there's no reason to s**** something like that unless it's a bare body shell that looks like it's been run over by a monster truck. Just because you think you took all the good stuff off - except those taillights, apparently - doesn't mean someone else might not want them or see a use for them. Which obviously someone did, since they asked if they were for sale.
Never say NFS. Always say that you often sell but aren't looking to just yet and get their name, number, and address...that way you at least have basic suspect info.
Good idea, the only problem is you encourage the annual phone call or visit to see if you're ready to sell yet. Still, a good idea.
You'd still have your stuff...I mean if they want my stuff AND know where I live, I would like the same information.
Yep, thats what is nice about it, they are HIS to do with what HE wants, be that rotting in a field, selling them or giving them to someone! i am sure if the shoe was on the other foot you would have done the same thing. we may not like the idea of it sitting and rotting but they are his. i hang on to cars and parts all the time but i also know if i am never going to do something with them i will put it up for sale. i also will not get rid of a parts car as long as i have the same type of car as you never know when you will need something.
Actually I did save the parts cars. When I bought them they had already been in a junk yard for 10+years. By that standards of that day they were not worth restoring. I had them delivered from the yard on a flat bed. Everything else(several hundred) in the yard was crushed a few years later when the owner died. I do not know why I did not remove the lights back then. I removed everything else that I thought could be saved. I have sold some of the extra parts over the years and offered a hood for free to someone. But it was too rough for him to use. I even posted an ad on here a couple of weeks ago about parts and did not get any responses.
Id like to see some pics of those deliveries, rough? Mine was so rough the wood floor fell out as I unloaded it. Body only no frame. Part of the windshield frame was rust seperated from the cowl. There are still guys out here that like a good challenge. I saved mine from the crusher. I would hate to see those go to rod heaven.
I do the same thing, then cant remember where they are, when I want them. You just cant win any more!!!!
If this thread started off, "this guy has been letting this 32 rot in a field" it would have went a totally different way. That being said, ripping something off of a car guy is a great way to get your *** kicked.
this was a joke by the way, lol. Thats ****s dude, seriously though, someone would probably want them, post them up on here, or even E*ay you will get a lot more than what a s****per would pay you
Man, seems like alot more **** is getting ripped off all over the place. One of the Hambers on here was saying he got a bunch of his work tools ripped off not to long ago.........well my buddy up here at work got most of his welding **** ripped off from his house last weekend!!!! *******S!!! JOKER JASON.
Having been a swap meet vendor for years and having a few things stolen before. I have always wondered what a thief says to his friend. "Hey check out these great tail lights I stole for my hot rod/restoration project."
I didn't say they asked about taillights. Following the original post they asked about the cars - which is something I would probably do myself. I don't condone stealing, but at the same time it's hard to feel too bad about it given the cars are headed for s**** anyways. Maybe they are complete ****, who knows, but I see a lot of stuff end up in a junkyard that someone else could - and would - fix. If I can swing it, I save it and sell it to someone who wants it -
