Hey guys just put a T5 in the ole Apache and she seems to run great other than has a lil Growl in reverse and first gear. Any advice on additives or any tips on something I could put in there to make it quieter? I used ATF like it called for but was thinking about draining it and trying gear lube or motor oil? I see some people running those as well? Any Tips would be much appreciated.

who cares about a growl in reverse. I would not put gear oil in it. Much tighter tolerences than say a toploader. What did it come out of?

The reverse isnt that big of a deal as much as the first and part of second. It came out of a 87 S10. Thanks though on the advice!

Most likely your input bearing is getting ready to go. If I'm right, the growl will become more and more noticeable in all gears except 4th, but the lower gears will be more pronounced...

You might be able to shim it up, but that's probably only delaying the inevitable if it is the bearing and not just slop...

Not what you wanted to hear, I know. But it's cheaper to fix it now than after it goes completely.
