Not the greatest picture, but you can see how it was clamped, anyway. There are definitely better options for clamps out there. Vise-grip type welding clamps would work as well as several others. It just keeps it centered until the peak is started and then it needs very little to keep it centered.

    Another great post, Scott.
What are you doing for an insert? I chopped mine 2 1/2 inches because the insert was readily available. I really dig the peak.

    Hey stranger!!!

I'm making an insert from scratch. Nothing fancy and will mostly resemble the stock insert, just with a little added twist. :D

Brother Mine, you don't need my approval......nepotism is a *****.

HOWEVER, my inner Service Manager WILL critique it:

I think you have exemplified CLEARLY and SIMPLY how to re-create a 32 shell. Your use of basic tools that even I own, and I am admittedly NOT a fabricator, was BRILLIANT. It's nice to see tech pieces done here on the HAMB, but it's an entirely other thing when one is so elementary in it's presentation AND tool list.

I appreciate how you listed the tools required to reproduce your work, and exhibited with simple words and pictures the procedure you utilized to re-create the desired look. As someone who is required to explain technical procedures to service technicians, this is VERY well put together and gives me a feeling of personal confidence that even I could perform it and replicate your exact outcome.

Bravo, I have never seen anything basic............even a caveman could do it. =O) BTW, when I say your presentation is ELEMENTARY, I mean to say it reads much like a recipe, and that's much appreciated.

Top notch tech Scott!! Will be getting my vote I'm sure!
For the peak - ever tried using a block of rubber to chase the line into? As it doesn't have the same "give" as a beater bag you've got more contol of how the peak/crest forms.
Not that your method isn't great - I'm just lazy!

I actually had thought about that, but the slab of rubber I had was a little TOO soft and I was afraid I would overstretch the peak. So... I used a block of wood instead. However, I didn't have much luck beyond what I had already started to do. I didn't include the bit about the wood block for that reason.

    Thanks for the comments!
