Drug these out of a house thats about to be bulldozed in. I sadly know pretty much nothing about Chevy heads, tried to search the #s on them but came up with nothing. On the chance that they're anything good (I hope) I figured its better to save them than let them get trashed with the rest of the house Looks like the casting # says 278246 here's some pics: Thanks for any info.
Looks like just standard old double hump heads. They are really popular some top performers back in the day. Probably 64 cc combustion chambers and 1.94 and 1.5 valves
These are early 327 hi po heads, the markings on the end are referred to as " double camel hump" They were used on 325 350 and 375 horse engines in 'vetts, chevelles, novas etc. To use them with today's gas it would be wise to use thick head gaskets to lower compression as those engines were at least 10:1.
The other reason why I think they are 68 and 9 are I dont notice any alternator bracket holes and those numbers ring a bell.
Uhhh....Not Likely The L =(month) 22 =(day) 4 =(last digit of year) code is the Date Code. It translates to Dec 22 1964. Straight from the mortec ( http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm) site; 3782461....64-66...327......Camel hump,no accessory holes,160/62cc port volumes,62cc chamber
Even though Im mistaken on the year ,Damn nice set of heads ,Im running a set on my 327 ,Only drawback is 94 only on octane ,
When you look at 2.02 valves in the head you will notice they will look like the exhaust and intake are almost touching. Easy way to tell. Those are 1.94's good street heads.
HEY...WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT HOUSE? I remember those heads in my house man...and I left to go get a loaf of bread...or maybe it was a gallon of milk...or somethin like that man...and that was like years ago...I couldn't find my way back!!! I think the government hid it from me!!! So I'm here now in this house, and it would be cool if you would be willing to send them back to me. I'll give ya my address, and I'll even pay for the shipping. Thanks man!!!
other than casting #'s lack of provision for water temp sending unit makes them early heads, pre 66'.
