NICE TRUCK DUDER! I'm super jealous. Except I've got my own little project. Well, several for that matter. Keep posting pics and I'll follow along and throw in my two cents. What are ya gonna do with the old block? Scrap it? I'm looking for Y block heads from that year. Let me know. The Dawg
It's not a y-block, it's a straight six. And I'll probably just take the header off of it and scrap the rest...thanks by the way
WOOHOO! Just got my Rebuilt Plymouth 318 engine and 450 tranny the day before yesterday, and the straight six was pulled outta the bed and sent to the scrapper..... The tranny i think my grandpa said it was a "torqueflite" or something, from an 80's dodge pickup... Jon
Looks like a great project! I sure do miss my 58 short box. I want another 57-60. Well enough of me, keep the progress coming.
Ok cool. Yeah it's weird when you have a dream car and then down the road you finally get one. I mean I looked at 4 or 5 57-60 F100's and never bought one....then I just saw this one on CL and it was to easy....
i think the fridges are my favorite. and they look awesome in white. nice find. i hope to have one someday too.
Great going Jon,....318 is a fine powerplant...even economical to run which will help out lots when you gotta buy gas to get to school! ...Keep up the progress and tell gramps "HI"...sorry to heard about Ralph... Randy
Thank You Randy. It means alot, Ralph had lot's of hot rods..I'll tell my grandpa Hi, how was the eugene roadster show?
i hope you used good primer for those black spots or your metal underneath that is gonna start rustin specialy were you live. Also what was done in that special engine rebuild?
The primer was a rust preventer, Don'tknow what was done, it was rebuilt by some hotrodder that my grandpa bought it from....
What sdrodder is sayin' is that most primers don't provide a water barrier, so there is a chance that the metal underneath the primer will begin rusting.
Gonna get my shifter from my Grandpa tomorrow or the next day.....a little automatic shifter. Also have some Bias Ply skinny blackwall tires and some studebaker wheels in them (ford car bolt pattern) if I got adapters for those wheels to fit the ford pickup pattern, how much would adapters be? and would it look good???? Picture it:flat black, red wheels with ford hubcap, white grill. Kinda like Chalupa55's
Welcome to owning a fridge! Fun to drive. Here's a link to a lot of the work done on mine, hope it helps you along. http://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gallery/displaygallery.php?userid=402689 SPark
Hey Thanks, you got a cool truck! I've always loved the Big Back Windows....wish mine was, but it's too much work to convert it....
did he just say he rebuilt it? Doesnt really look like it with overspray on the plug wires and such. Im just saying this cause that could easily be a lie it has happened to me where i bought rebuilt engines opened them up to find them not but then if you trust everyones word lets just hope everything turns out better than i think. You can easily figure out if stude rims will fit by taking of a wheel and trying to fit a stude rim on or by buying the revolutionary and very helpfull thing is the tape measure. Hope this helps
What's the Big Deal with having overspray on plug wires??? it sat in my grandpas garage unmoved for years, the overspray is either from me painting in his garage or from him when he painted the engine when he bought it.....and it is rebuilt, my grandpa knew the guy.....and if it wasn't my grandpa wouldn't have bought it.
why do you get offended. I asked a question and you got pissed off at me. Since you didnt share every detail about the motor im asking... Here is me trying to help you out again but you dont have to take advice. Since you mentioned that the engine has sat for a couple years i would personaly open it up and check to be sure. Over years the oil will pool up in the oil pan and the engine will lose lubrication. This can cause no lubrications on the bearings, the journals can rust up, the oil galleries can rust up, and in the worst case scenario the engine will seize. Better safe than sorry.
Ok I'm sorry...was having a really bad day....I don't know everything that was done it to it. My grandpa turned it over with a wrench when he had it in the air and he said it turned fine....I might put a really lopey cam in it though....
Dont need to let it out on those who are trying to give you some clear advice on your porject. Turning an engine wont exactly mean its ok. IF an engines been sitting a long time it has the possibility of having those issues i mentioned so its way better to go through an engine to make sure instead of saying yeah its rebuild and rely on it. A lopey cam may not be the best choice if you want a streetable car.
