A while back I bought a brake pedal ***embly for my 40 that came with a booster and a corvette style master cylinder with outputs on either side. Since then I've lost the plugs to block off the unused side and everywhere I went to try and find them the plugs were too short. Anyone know where to get these longer plugs?
You can get the plug at the local Advances Auto store ! Personally I really don't like to do that . I would change the master cylinder to the equal front and back M/C which is used for drum all the way around . That's an easy fix ! RetroJim
Around here, Carquest and Napa parts stores carry Plews-Edelmann fittings. They carry a full line of brake product fittings and plugs.
What size fitting(thread dia. and pitch) and how long do you need? I'll check what I have on hand and see if I have it. If I do, I'll give you parts numbers and brand if they are still in the package, or I'll send them to you. I'm in for lunch right now...I'll check back before I'm going back to the shop.
http://spideraccessories.stores.yahoo.net/mastercylinder.html This is what I have at home, I didn't buy it from this site though. So according to this it's 3/16 plugs. And they have to be long.
get a piece of brakeline from the parts store, they have 2 didfferent lengths of fittings on them, take the long one and tap the center hole for a pipe plug.
would this work? no leaks? I found a manufacturer of these mastercylinders and asked them to send me a plug, and yet the plug was still too short.
this does work, i did something similar to a vette MC, but i just left the brake line/tube in the fitting and tack welded the outside end closed. The reason for leaving the line/tube in is it sits on the flare better. Now to point #2, not using the MC properly, closing one outlet, may not be such a good idea, i did it just to move a car around and it was not permanent. What i ended up doing was teeing both outlets into one and used the car like that for a while, until i upgraded to disc up front. What i remember was pedal was super sensative and my drum brakes would lock up if i pressed the brakes too much.
If you are talking about the vette mastercylinder with 4 outlets, a friend got one with a pete and jakes frame. The plugs for closing off the 2 unused outlets were like an allen screw, so they didn't have a shoulder to stop them from bottoming. I don't remember if they had a special end to hit the seeat, but I don't think so. There should be a br*** seat in all 4 outlets, if yours is bottoming because some seats are missing I would return the master as defective. If all else fails you could check with p&j's they would probably sell you some plugs.
