I sold my cruiser skirts on eBay to a guy in Connecticut and was checking out the shipping prices in Canada vs. the US - BIG difference! Is it possible I can bring the cruiser skirts across the border (I live about 15 mins. away from the Buffalo, NY border) and ship them? I have a friend in West Seneca, NY that I could probably use as an return address, but I'm wondering when I do ship them what problems will arise. I've had parts shipped to NY and brought them over, but have never done the reverse. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks! Tom
just as long as you make sure to clean off the maple syrup from the box, dont wear your flanel and leave the pet moose at home. oh, resist the urge to say EH, and they will never know you arent from here!! haha
I bought a couple of things (hubcaps, air cleaners) from a guy in Canada, he did the same thing you are proposing...Ended up costing me about 60% less in shipping.
I get complaints all of the time about the price of shipping stuff out of Canada. Like it's my fault......
I've crossed into the US many times to ship parts from Greyhound.I always leave the box unsealed and I've never had them check the contents.I've often been amazed how little trouble it's been.
Put them in the trunk and tell them you`re going to Macs auto parts in Lockport. Honesty doesn`t get you anywhere anymore. You shouldn`t have any trouble.
I bought a flatbed trailer from a guy in Brampton, he brought it into Buffalo and I met him there, paid him and that was it.
Thanks for the input guys! My brothers, girlfriends, mother works at customs and the one thing she made sure to tell me was to claim the value for what they sold on eBay, not for what I bought them for (significantly less). She went on to tell me that they do have access to eBay and will reposes them if the price I tell them is different. Thanks! Tom
When bringing parts back into Canada I've often been asked where I found the parts. When I say the internet they quickly ask which site? Ebay? I then say no "Ford Barn".Then they say oh and drop all discussion of value.
If that's the case, Phil, I will get Sparky to call you with my order. Roger PS. see you at Waterdown
ha..ha..Leroy still has the stuff at his house , says he'll take it to Waterdown with him, maybe I'll have that new license so I can cross over by then
You can absolutely do this. Find the nearest UPS store on the US side, and ship from there. They do not care if you are from the better side of the border.......
I get the same thing in reverse. When I ship parts upstairs, I constantly hear "why does it cost so much?" You give is Celine Dion, we charge you more on shipping. Bet you wont do that again.
I'm still a little leery about bringing the cruiser skirts across the border and shipping them. After reading the "Canadian Online Speedshop" thread - http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=464487 I don't know if it's worth taking them over and shipping them vs. shipping them from Canada (from fedex, comparing the cheapest prices - Canada to US - approx. $100, US to US - $35). Talking to someone who works at Canada customs, they mentioned a lot of paperwork and recommended I just shipped them here. Any more thoughts? Thanks! Tom
When you drive from Canada to the US, you do not have to stop at Canadian customs. You only have to speak to US immigration. Tell them you're going shopping, and nothing else. Find the nearest UPS store, and ship the damn things.
To be legal and do it right, you need declare to US customs and fill out US Department of Homeland Security Bureau of Customs and Border Protection form 7533 (05/00) if the parts you are selling into the US are under 200.00, and use form 7523 (05/00) if the parts are over 200.00. They will also charge you 10.75 US for doing this. They need to know what the parts are and who they are going to. It's wise to be able to provide proof of the transaction. You can then go the the nearest UPS or FedEx depot and ship your parts to your customer. Don't ever mess with US or Canadian Customs, it can get ugly real fast! HemiDeuce.
