I thought this thread was about NSRA OKC, not bashing it and trying to divert everyone to the RedneckRoundup???Thanks for all your positive comments patrick66... I think we should make you 'THE BOSS' this weekend, then the world (OKC) will be a perfect place!

Redbows, I hope you have a good time. The weather looks promising. I've been to the NSRA event there numerous times. The Nationals were there in 1991 and that was the first time I was able to drive a vehicle through the gate of a major event. That was huge for me. We have camped at the campground beside the fairgrounds. The facility used to be huge. The last time I was there, there were new fences everywhere chopping it up. Please give us a report on Monday. This is a transitional time for the NSRA. No one really knows how their recent decision will sit with it's members. I would like to hear your take on it-years of cars attending, size of the crowd, size of the swapmeet, vendors, etc. Enjoy the weekend. Sam

I will be there on friday.
I dont think anyone will be making you look at cars you dont like.
Even if the style might not be your thing there will be many things to enjoy like looking at all the ingenuity that goes into some the rods.
Great place to look at eye candy and also to get ideas of what to do and what not to do.
I am looking forward to spending time with my Dad and Brother.

maybe this year with some new stuff they won't bother everyone on meridian. last yr the police were not out and it was a good night... now with something besides the oldguys in the old cars it will be better...we just did a few little things on the magenta nova g***er for the okc show this week and he said his pre reg number as of two weeks ago was like 810, kinda low for this close to the event im thinking, we'll see how it goes...

I'm doing neither. I am, in fact, trying to promote the OKC event in my own little warped way. The city "leaders" are trying really, really hard to drive (pun intended) car and bike-related events out of the city. They are pro-horse and anti-horsepower, and that pisses me off just a tad, in case you had not figured that out. Therefore, before the NSRA does, indeed, tell OKC to piss off, you and everyone else should come to OKC to enjoy the SW Nats before they move it. It's not that people don't want it or don't enjoy it, far from that! People love it! It's the hostile environment the City "leaders" hold for motorheads in general, that I have a HUGE issue with.

It's truly a shame that the NSRA event and the Roundup are on the same weekend! Think someone could maybe FIX that next year...?

Looks like Austin's city government actually appreciates the Roundup and the dollars that event brings in. It will be around for years to come, I'll bet money on it. The myopic people that run and influence the OKC gub'mint are not nearly as inclusive and far-sighted as they'd like people to believe.

Oklahoma City has a LOT to offer visitors! But, if you are participating in a car event here, the City would rather you spend your money while being invisible. It's the way it is here, unfortunately. I HAVE contemplated running for City government in the past to change that very way of thinking, but I am not willing to sell my soul to run.

Sammy, your Nova looks ***s! We'll have to chat about some flake on the wagon, if I end up keeping it!

I had heard that NSRA was thinking about moving the OKC event to later in the year, like Sept. or Oct. or something like that. Something about trying to avoid the spring weather here in Oklahoma. Anyone know if there is any truth to this?

Spent the day out at the OKC fairgrounds, a friends registered this morning and was in the mid 16 hundreds so there's a decent turnout. Not as many vendors as usual.
I was pleasantly surprised that the place wasn't over-run with newer cars. To be sure there were a few that looked like they just came over from the "buy here, pay here" car lot but for the most part the cars were what I enjoy looking at.
I went expecting to be disappointed with the NSRA decision but it doesn't appear to have had a big effect on the cars so far. That is if you don't count a dead stock '66 galaxie in a lovely shade of brown.

I'm there at the swap meet all day Saturday, and maybe Sunday, depending on a couple of things.

A Fall move by NSRA would be a great thing, IMO, because of the unpredictable April weather. Early October would be great!

It looks like somebody decided to go . The participant count just announced at 2pm Saturday at OKC was 1923 vehicles. Last year the number was 1592. That is a pretty good jump. I talked to some folks on the grounds that said it was a decent mix of vehicles with lots of Tri-Five Chevys and F-100s. I am sure there were others in the mix too but you can't please everybody. Look at the ones you like.

Good turnout of cars and people, I think that part of the rise in attendance is due to the weather. Two years ago temperature was in the 40's with drizzle and wind. Last year wasn't too bad but it's really nice this year if you don't count the usual Oklahoma 30mph breeze.
Nice turnout of 48-54 customs that, in my opinion should have been included years ago. Not too many really out of place cars and of course if you don't like them cover your eyes when you walk by. All in all a good turnout of nice cars with great weather.

October would conflict with Goodguys at TMS...that would not be a good move for the NSRA.

September would be a better idea.

Sam, If you have not gotten the info on NSRA - OKC, I'll repeat it. There were 1923 participants. Maybe 20% were late models and they took 20% of the awards. I was number 100 in the parade Friday at noon and there were probably 15 behind men. That was really fun. Came home with a burn but don't know if it was the wind or the sun. Evenings required a light jacket 72 in the afternoon. The wind was 39/40 mph. I was born and raised in OKC and didn't move to Texas until 1969. As we were looking at the cars on Friday I noticed a nice 37 Ford Panel Truck. He had a 1939 Midget race car on a trailer behind it, V8 60 powered. Being a Panel Truck freak We stopped to visit. Turns out the owner and I both attended Cl***en High School and graduated in 1951. I didn't remember him nor did he remember me. But we did have a lot of friends and stories in common. Small world isn't it?
Anyone go to the Choctaw Show at Grant, OK. Saturday?

I was thinking of going up to the NSRA event...can you guys post some pics.
I'm getting alittle tired of $50 for a rat rod fest down in Austin, but I go just to see those one or two great ones.
