20 year old paint ( I think lacquer ) I started wet sanding to get out some dirt & orange peel out - had never been done. Using 2000 paper ( some 1500 ) too - by hand, foam pads w/ electric buffer/polisher. First results on fender and door looks pretty good, but started the trunk lid and OH OH I am having my doubts now - still pretty scratchy now after using "3 M Super Duty Rubbing Compound". Am I jumping the gun or will polishing take it out - am I screwed or what? A couple months ago I did a light scuff & buff and I later saw under better lights that it still had alot of peel and swirls, soooooo here I am----?? Any advise? And what should I do on the rest of the car? THANKS!!

You need to go to some fine cut, then some polish. That should get out all the rest of the scratches. If I remember right super duty is pretty co****. Compounds are just like sandpaper, gotta keep going finer.

Yes dude, not only did you **** up you ****ed somebody with VD.

All kidding aside, just keep working finer and finer grit until the marks are gone. Now if you scratched through to primer, the former statement might apply.

Buff the compound(s?) with a wool pad at like a medium rpm. Becareful with the wool pad...
When ya get that done switch over to a foam pad, use a polish AND swirl remover (one product), and bump up the rpm some.
