I have a 56 chevy that I want to run a set of Hurst's tires on the rear but I don't know if their 30x10x15 will clear the front corner of the rear wheel opening.

I currently am running a set of BFG drag radials that are 315 wide on a 10" reverse offset rim that measure 28.8" in diam. The car has had the springs moved inboard, rear inner fenderwells relocated 3" inward and there is about two fingers clearance between the tire and the body at the front lower corner of the fenderwell. The rear end is narrowed to the point that an 8" wheel just isn't an option. I won't be wide enough.

Has anyone mounted up a set of 30's on a 10" rim? Do the side walls bulge at all and what does the actual tread width measure when mounted and aired up? The tires are too exspensive (for me) to purchase and not fit. I would be greatful for any insight.

How wide do you want the 30 inch tire and what is your back space on your rim?

    Hi,
I have a '57 that I also have performed the same modifications. I have installed 325/50 15's on the rear. I still have clearance to the frame and fender lip. I think the issue as you mentioned is at the front of the wheelwell. These tires are a little over 28 inches tall and they are close. When I was researching going to the bigger tires some guys who had installed taller tires had moved the axle back one inch to get the clearance. You might try mocking up a 30 inch diameter piece of cardboard or plywood and see how close it is.

A cheap starting point would be to buy a second hand 31-10.50/15 radial pickup tire, that is the case he uses. If that won't fit, you have no chance, since the corners are squared off on the cheater slick.

I have a blem if you want a photo or a measurement.

i bought a pair of the 30'x10' 15's and i contacted cody and he said that a ten inch rim is too wide for that tire, you can use between a 8' and a 9' inch rim.

One other thing, oddly this worked out better for me, i bought the 10'x 30's but they turned out to be 10'x29'? did anyone else have this happen to them?

You always measure a tire in the middle of the tread , inflated. The true run out on the 30"x10" tire is 94.25" . 94.25 divided by 3.1416 = 30"

You are measuring the shoulder at 29.5"
