There is NO duty on car parts if you declare them as "for your own personal use". All you have to pay is the GST/PST on the invoiced value. Don't try to cross without the original bill of sale or the invoice, or you will have problems.

  2. Tis true. Dont fool with them at the border. Be up front and show a willingness to pay. Once in a while you get some power hungry fool but for the most part they dont give any problems and why would they if you're being straight.
Been to Hortons when they were in Breaslau. Real big on Tim Hortons too.
Anybody know what did happen to Canadian Hi Perfomance Distributors in BC?

Most of our friends south of the border do not understand "Tim Hortons", Don! That's just what we do after we've picked up our treasures at "Paul Hortons". Yep, "Timmys" is a coffee/donut place that is extremely popular in Canada.

I have to agree with this comment..its a big risk not worth taking.. They make you walk , with a big ticket , court appearance, and you lose all you had at that moment.. it would be gone, including the freedom to travel..

We get the raw deal here in Canada when it comes to the performance aftermarket or anything specialty. I buy pretty much every part out of the U.S. ....my advice is to buy when the Canadian $$$ is up and choose your courier wisely....UPS can be expensive with the brokerage and duties....I found FedEx and USPS regular mail to be the most economical. Ultimately sometimes you have to bite the bullet and pay....if you really need something...you gotta pay for it. I went as far as getting a Keystone account to save myself money on certain parts. But sometimes Summit Racing can be cheaper than keystone. When it comes to antique parts, places like MAC's are great suppliers. I found Horton Hot Rods to be very overpriced....but they do have a very large catalog with top vendors.....I can by the same items out the U.S. with shipping and still save. Choose your suppliers wisely. There are some days I really wish I lived in the U.S. ....the availability of parts and savings is unreal.

Any of the US border cities/towns have places like this, when I lived in Ottawa I would ship to the UPS store in Ogdensburg and go get it myself...unfortunately I am 5 plus hrs to the border now :(

I use this place in Niagara Falls NY - www.cbiusa.com and have everything dropped shipped there.
Place is 5 minutes across the Border from the Rainbow Bridge

  14. I have a US address I ship to and pickup myself-just declare anything you are bringing through and like it was said-have an invoice with you. Lying won't do you any favours. You also have to remember your bridge tolls, fuel and time back and forth to the border and depending on time of year-backups at the border. Sometimes it is easier and just as economical to buy local. Not worth it for a 15% discount on a $50 part.

The Canadian Post Office will collect HST, over a certain dollar amount; when they feel like it, plus a $5 admin fee.

Courier Companies want an extra $50+ for doing their job.

Honesty is the best policy,,2 guys up here got dinged not declaring actual value on the hotrods they bought on ebay..WTF ya think Canada Customs does not check your ebay history if you show up with a shiney new hotrod and claim you only paid $6K for,,the guys end up with a few thousand dollars in fines plus the tax..not worth risk/h***le ..last thing you want to do is be "pegged" as a ne'er do well on either side of the border.
