Hotrod primer I have tried Grease Lighting( swear by the stuff) but it did not even clean them up! For thew price you pay for this $hit, you would think there would be some kind of quality in the product!! Clyde
lots of good info I guess I'm gonna sell these pos cokers and go with the db's sounds like no amount of cleaning will work
If Wesleys won't get the brown off then spray them again with more Wesleys and lightly wet sand them with 600 grit wet paper.
Haha sorry Mutt.....they're Hursts from Cody. VERY surprised that they have doen this esp with zero milage....only noticed it the other day when I was in the garage. Have'nt brought it up with Cody yet. Before pix....no after pix as yet. GREAT lookin tire though !! Rat
Always had great luck with either Ajax or Comet powder cleaner, a good stiff scrub brush or Scotchbrite pad, soapy water, and some elbow grease. Never had a problem. Plus, it helps to keep ALL of the so-called "preservatives" like Armor-All AWAY from tires, period. It actually accelerates deterioration of the rubber itself. Crap in a bottle.
I've had a set of Diamondback that were great. I just bought a car with ols Cokers on it. They were nasty, but cleaned up great with Magic Eraser. I use it on everything.
If all else fails try a bit of Lacquer thinners on a clean cloth. Just remember to keep it off the black as it will smear on the white wall. Tales elbow grease but it makes I'm white. The Old Tinbasher
When a tire turns brown it doesn't matter if it is a white wall or black sided tire.the rubber used in building the tire is old and will continue to brown no matter how you clean them.Send them back. The manufacturer should make this right if you have a receipt. This holds true with most tire companies.See if you can find a tire build date on the tire. Example ,go to a cruise or look at a car with tires that are turning brown ,clean them and drive 50 miles ,the brown returns.Acording to what I was told by a supervisor at a Goodyear.Michelin warehouse.
I have good luck with soapy water and wetsanding. Makes whitewalls bright white and slick as a ribbon.
spray them with the pure white krylon 'plastic' paint - did mine and they discolor just a touch and look good - they don't seem to crack either and it is a cheap fix while on the car too!...just mask real well and watch the overspray!
Yepper, ol' chevy got it right. I was racking my tiny little mind trying to remember what I was told about this back in olden days, and when I saw ol' chevy's remark about butyl rubber, it came back.... Thanks ol' chevy. Sometimes I get a mental vapor lock and it drives me nuts because I can't remember something I used to take for granted. SAFU
Here is what Diamondback says: CLEANING TIPS (No Bleach)One of the first things you will notice is that Diamond Back Classics are extremely easy to clean. Most whitewalls turn dingy or yellow because of the leaching of chemicals (mostly anti-oxidants) into the white material. Because our process uses a butyl lining to stop chemical leeching, you only have to clean the surface dirt. We recommend frequent cleanings with an abrasive cleaning pad. A fine or medium sanding sponge works well. These are available at most hardware stores. Any good cleaner works OK - Castrol Super Clean, 409, Simple Green, Greased Lightning - just to name a few. Avoid cleaners that contain bleach. Prolonged use of these cleaners can “dry” the whitewall surface. Do not use products such as Armor All on whitewall. This could cause slight discoloration. Whitewall surfaces tend to “dry” with time, heat, ozone, etc. A vigorous cleaning periodically will get rid of the dry surface and help maintain the tire’s beauty. Don’t be afraid to scrub. What Ruins Whitewall Tires? If you have your car serviced and the tires have to be removed for any reason, be sure you are there to supervise how they are handled. Chemical agents such as oils and grease can affect the white rubber to cause permanent problems. And guess what will cause permanent staining of whitewalls? Stacking tires with the black side of one tire against the white sidewall of another! Remember what I said about how chemicals from black rubber will leach into white rubber? Well, there is no protective barrier on the outside of the white rubber, so if the tires are stacked one on another, or even leaned against one another, it can happen very fast. It looks like a brown stain — and it’s permanent. All the cleaning agents in the world won’t get rid of it.
i've really enjoyed my diamondbacks, they dont require excessive care and they were really helpful in picking the right tire for my truck. i bought some white wall wipes from the carlisle show last fall and they work great for keeping them sparkling white. i forget the name, but if you see these guys set up at a show, buy some to try.
If you want brown walls buy Coker. If you want white walls buy Diamond Backs. Take it from an Old Fart you get what you pay for in a whitewall.
I am no tire expert and this is just my opinion. Depends on how they where made white, if they just have some thin white cover as in paint or something on those lines than more than likely its the oils in the tire weeping through. however if they are actually true white walls then its something on the surface thats browning them. I know its not considered cool to some people, but i made a set of white walls for my beater using the dipit spray on. it was white for a long time but finally succumb to the brown. i figure i will respray them again this summer, can't afford Cokers just 2 cost more then what i paid for the car LOL.
I am NOT a cleaner. I wash my truck before a show, then drive there. I don't polish, wax or dust, I've got things to see and people to do. I don't keep my whitewalls clean. I like the whitewall wipes. DON"T stick your finger down that serrated hole to poke the extra wipes back down....trust me, it doesn't let go and hurts like hell. When my tires are really dirty I use bleachwhite first for the deep funk, then immediately follow up with 409 to get any remnants of the bleach off, then rinse. They come clean every time. Love my Diamond Backs.
