All the very best wishes for a speedy recovery to Dave.

Condolences to Bobs family and friends. It is never an easy time when a loved one is taken too early.

I'm not a fan of open vehicles. Hell, I even installed a 6-point roll cage in my pickup truckrod, for the added safety. People laugh. Maybe now they'll get it.

Do you mean it rolled over 3 times or you rolled it on 3 different occasions???

Nope rolled 3 times on one occasion. That was enough. Sat in the garage for 25 years then rebuilt it. It is my Avatar

Having done the big car acccident injury thing years back, I'm wishing Dave a speedy recovery. It really helps to be up and around ASAP, great for morale boosting.

    I Just received this email:

I just got off the Phone with Linda, and she sounded "up" and is ok with what the hospital is doing for Dave. She will be home tomorrow night and send an up date e-mail at that time.

Surgery is scheduled for Friday on Dave's neck, probably have to fuse two vertebrae.

His right arm is responding well to the reconstruction of the artery and should be ok in time.

Linda said Dave is not talking phone calls, but she is in his room and if you need to contact her the # is room # 1035.

I kept this short so there would be no misinformation. The message is, Dave will recover but his is in tough shape for the next few weeks.

And yes, the car is in protected inside storage and can/will be repaired.

May God look out for he and his. Those injuries are very extensive and will need and lot of rehab and family to help out. I'm amazed he's alive after reading that it was a roadster and had rolled, roll bar or not. I certainly hope everything goes well with the arm. Good luck and fight the good fight, mi amigos.

These are the pics taken at the scene................a very scary wreck. As bad as it was, it could have been much worse. Seeing this gives me a chill after putting a lot of miles on my roadster.
I am hoping Dave's recovery will be complete and as fast as possible.

Since vintagehotrods already posted the pics from the accident scene, I guess there's no harm in posting these pics:

I think they're more sobering than inappropriate, we drive these over-powered old, home built jalopies, with no rollover protection, no side intrusion protection, blowers, drum brakes etc etc everyday. In a perfect world this would be ok, but, throw drunk drivers, **** wits AND mother nature into the mix and we're running the gauntlet every time. It's the price we pay for looking cool, still beats driving a volvo tho, don't it.
Our thoughts and wishes to him, his family and friends.

They certainly bring you up short,

Dave is a lucky man to be alive after that, I know there is no way we can take 'mother nature' in to account but it serves as a very stong message to us all.

Thoughts and best wishes to all for a complete recovery.

Everyday we need to be reminded of what can happen. It is so easy to think "that won't happen to me".

In 1972, my Mom was getting into her car and she said ..."I'll be right back".
I never saw her again. She was killed in an accident.

Your life will change forever when your tide of good luck takes a day off. You can not drive a 3,000 pound vehicle down the road and always be fully ***ured that you will be safe. All you can do is do all you can.

Although these stories are painful to read, if they make us pause for just a moment to absorb the gravity of what we normally take for granted, then they are worth our time to let it sink in.

This story turns out to have a happy ending. His life was spared and he will see another sunrise....and that is always a good day.

Super unfortunate and sad things, I'm glad to hear he survived the accident; rolling in a roadster is no joke.

Prayers go out to him and his family.

I would think rolling in any 50-70 year old car is probably not a real fun ride.
I was a p***enger in a BMW that rolled at about 100mph (Boquet Canyon... Maybe some local Ca guys know it)... That car saved my life... I have no illusions that another car even from the same year would have allowed me to walk away from it. And I'm quite confident that I wouldn't be here if we had taken my friends dad's 38 Coupe instead of his moms car.

It is easier to hide a rollcage in a coupe... But I just wanted to point out that, I don't think the closed-car guys should look at this and think they're safe... Start engineering some hidden protection guys.

Roadsters with rollbars look goofy but I'm rather fond of the shape of my head... Maybe I need to think about a way to make it look cool.

Terrible news here's to a speedy full recovery.

  30. Looks like the quality of the car and the cage helped. Having been upside down I am impressed that the car stayed together so well. Best wishes to a speedy recovery. Trent
