I've test driven two of these and both seem to be missing a lever or something on the bottom left corner of the dash above the driver's left knee. (see picture)

There is a hole and ring there, and what looks like an internal structure meant to hold a push rod.. but neither car has this. And most of the pictures I'm finding online seem to be missing it as well.

Anybody know what's supposed to be here??

Isn't that where the manual pull knob for the fresh air vent is supposed to be? (been a while since I had my '63).

No.. that is the lever to the right of the ignition that you can see just down and to the left of the steering wheel.

That is the e-brake light to tell when the e-brake is on. There is suppose to be a red lense in the hole. On my 1962 it does not work and the red lense is missing.

... I'm starting to think that there's some big conspiracy to steel these lenses... I have NEVER seen one intact...

Mine actually did have one when I got the car but is was cracked and fell apart when I was changing the bulb. I still have to figure out how to make the light turn on when the e-brake is applied.

    from PA.

Some have a switch in the e-brake unit itself, kind of trigger that activates when the internals rotate. Simple plug in unit.

The lens missing/broken is a common problem for the '61-'63's

You can "fix" it by taking it apart and making a new one out of thin Red plastic.
While you have it apart, replace the bulb and check the switch above the E-Brake pedal.
