Can't wait to get the motor back on saturday!! I hope that Van can maybe comment on what exactly happened to my motor , as my terminology knowledge is pretty weak!! All i really know is sand destroyed my motor!! weird but true!!:(

I didnt find the sand, VAN did, when he dis***embled the motor. i wish he could come on here and explain better than I ever could. the block was media blasted and sand got embedded in the block, something like that. Van, where are you?

That's not uncommon to have media caught in small places on engines. I remember once that we got a new blaster for the engine machine shop I worked at and I didn't clean my mother's 454 out properly. I ***embled it and she drove it from Bakersfield to Big Bear and half way back before it started pinging...........I tore it back down and rebuilt it, but boy howdy did I never hear the end of that one. =O)

It's gunna be A OKAY! Promise.

Looking good guys. Delmo ,you dont live here anymore so the beard isnt needed to keep your face warm.

  9. Some flatheads have sand still in them from the foundry when they were cast, heard sometimes it can be quite a bit. Wonder why so many ran hot and cracked the heads and p***ages so often :rolleyes:. Sand traps heat a**** other things. Hope its nothing to serious from the sand. Glad to see your gonna have it back on the road soon Ian.-Weeks

Thanx guys for the words of encouragement!! :)

It was bead blasted and in time the left over media acted as sand paper and the rod bearings are shot and the block is damaged i guess. Van could explain better! Im gonna need another block and Van is TOTALLY hooking me up with all i need to have the motor run 120,000 miles guaranteed!!:D The car show season is just starting!! thank god for this forum, i would have never know about him!!:)

You explained it well enough and it's good of him to rectify the problem since it's his bad if it was HIS machine. That's just good business and a good businessman. I miss good businessmen.

Sand in the motor? Damn, that's a bummer for sure. Good luck getting it back together better than ever.

It was good to meet Ian & his buddy today. He has a really nice built Chevy motor. The block at some point was bead blasted & some of the bead went through the oil system and embedded into the bearings. The bearings now acted like sandpaper on the crank, you can guess the result. The crank hit the s**** pile & I will put together a fresh short and Ian's top end. Ian wants a cruiser and less hot rod combo, I agree with his thoughts on this. I in no way want to bad rap the guy who built this motor. This just falls under the **** happens deal.
