hi there what is the most cost effective radiator i can use in my model a pickup with small block and a automatic and a stock commercial grill shell hopefully something i can get easily at parts parts store i heard a 65 mustang but im not sure of the dimensions thanks in advanced
why not use the original rad. sure a stock rad won't cool a sbc, but if you have one you could easily take it to a rad shop, tell them the motor combination and they can modify for you. you'll probably spend the same amount on a new griffin aluminum rad, and it might not fit as well. this way you know the original rad will fit the shell... this is what im doing for my mdl a. im not using an original mdl a grill shell...but im using a grill shell from a 20's buick, with a matching rad... just my 2 cents.
yeah mustang works good just finished putting one in my sedan used stock 28/29 shell dont have any pics right now but if you need em pm me and ill send the pics and some ballpark measurements to you
i got 65-66 mustang v8 radiator too, fits nice inside a 28/29 grille shell. paid $104 brand new, with transmission cooler. cant beat it!
Do you have the dimensions on that Mustang radiator? I'm running a chopped 32 shell, but don't think it's large enough.
I took a '71 Dodge Dart rad and used it in a '28/29 rad shell. I had to add extra necks for a flathead, but it fit inside the shell okay and the original frame around the rad served for mounting tabs. I think the dimensions were 18"x 21". Flatman
If someone could post some pics of a mustang radiator in a model a shell and how you attached it. that would be swell!!
here you go, i got 21 inches high, 17 3/4 wide, and 2 3/8 deep. my grille shell is shortened, and the curve on the top has been lowered to match the cowl of my T. i still have no fitment problems. included are a few pics. and heres an ebay link to the company i got it from. they are distributed locally and i got mine in 2 days. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Mustang-65-66-Radiator-3-Row-1965-1966-NEW-w-Wrnty_W0QQitemZ140080104962QQihZ004QQcategoryZ33602QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Thanks Josh, Those measurements fit my shell fine too. I'll probably go that route instead of an aluminum unit. The 3 row should cool my mopar 340 just fine, and ata great price. Thanks again
no problem man, i have been the aluminum route, and for the cost of an aluminum rad, i'd rather make my own mounts. glad i helped out a bit. good luck!
