Say you didn't have any projects, and had to start fresh with $10k... where would you start, what would you do with it?
I actually won about that much some 5 years ago, i used half to pay of all my debts (sp?) and then bougt my -53 Buick, then it was more or less just change left. I never regret it, feels good to be out of debt and have a great car!
[ QUOTE ] I'd use it as a down payment on twjoyce's 5window coupe. B B [/ QUOTE ] I second that that car is the freakin coolest.
I'd scoure(sp) the cl***ifieds and look for something cheap and out of the ordinary. I guess that's why I'll never be out of debt. Or you could drop me a PM and I'll hook you up with a winner of some sort.
Debt, but you probably don't want to hear that again.. I'd try and find a 59 Impala, slap a 350 in it, something along those lines...
asumming that you didn't need the money to pay off debts , or support your kids , or provide education or housing...and the money was truely a windfall and extra money.. and you plan on being in this hobby for a long time...i would buy all the old ford sheetmetal/bodies/ch***is parts you could find and stockpile them for future projects (not as speculation) as i said, if you plan on doing this for a long time, now is the time to buy...i wish i had 20 years ago. then you could buy complete model A projects for $300....i bought a `32 ford 5 window in 1982 for $4800 and drove it home! 20 years ago you couldn't GIVE AWAY away `40 ford brakes.(i'm glad i saved a bunch of them).now they will bring $150-$200 on ebay...`28-40 ford pickup cabs couldn't be given away either.see what they bring now...buick drums were worthless too..`32-`34 wishbones were worthless, everybody wanted 4-bars...see what they cost now i'm not complaining about the prices, the increase in the interest in our hobby has brought it on,supply annd demand...and i'm not saying to buy to speculate..just if i was a young guy again with that much extra money , i'd buy all i could...the stuff is only gonna get harder to find and more expensive just my opinion
OK, If the 10K had to be spent on car stuff, then I'd use it to buy a ride and hopefull a 200MPH hat at Bonneville. Every guys fantacy .
No other projects, eh? Hmmmm....I'd buy the few things I still need around the shop (Mig welder, english wheel, etc). Then I'd start ac***ilating the parts to build a bucket...Rebuild my caddy motor, etc..
Ive been thinking of buying a house and maybe getting a little extra from the bank to "fix things up", if thats even possible. I would spend the 10k on finding a stock 62 bel-air and stuffing a big block in it and go drag racing early 60's style, paint it appliance white and a red bench seat, skinny mags in the front wide steels in the back and haul ***. I bet that would eat up 10K pretty fast.
Ummmh that would buy me a nice 49 Shoebox me thinks get it to the port stick it in a container few weeks later...ahhh heaven. Clean underpants and a new hacksaw blade please, nurse! Time for my medication
Man, I was gonna put a caveat in the post that said "hot rod/custom related" but I figured I didn't need to ****, if I had a windfall like that the first thing I'd do is pay off the debts too... but come on now, what kind of fun is that?? you guys gettin' all responsible on me here?? So... with that in mind, keep 'em comin' And by the way TwistedOkie I didn't say I actually had it, just wondering what my fellow HAMBers out there would do with it...
I would probably end up ******* it away... Actually look around and try and find some Cammer heads well maybe one cammer head..
[ QUOTE ] ******s and cocaine [/ QUOTE ] and a video camerea! Seriously I would look around and find a screaming deal. Remember the money in the bank is making you money... let it sit until the right thing comes along...
buy a house??? where do you guys live that 10k will even put a dent in a downpayment??? need well over 100k to go shopping in my neck of the woods. (san jose, ca) i would blow the bux on tools & equipment. then if any bux are left over buy some old sheetmetal and start building a low buck rat.
Right about now, I'd use it to help with the next two year's worth of college. (yeah, another career change in the works-- choose your careers wisely, because if your work peters out, you'll be hurting!)
[ QUOTE ] buy a house??? where do you guys live that 10k will even put a dent in a downpayment??? need well over 100k to go shopping in my neck of the woods. (san jose, ca) [/ QUOTE ] A lot of places. Raleigh NC for one. 1900 sg/ft 50's brick ranch and a 2500 sq/ft shop on a an acre, $127k.... Could've got by with 3% down.. as for the money. I'd buy a bead roller, louver press, TIG, shrinker/stretcher, planishing hammer, english wheel, mill, lathe.... probably have money left over for a Henrob...
I would look for a project that is about done and the owner has given up. You get to finish it the way you want and you can usually get a deal on unfinished projects. Clark
.....give it to my buddy Randy,to help pay for my paint job. ****,between him and D&W paint(Sherwin/Williams dealer)10 G's won't go to far
