Tried a search, but can't find a good picture that shows me how you mount the generator on an old hemi. I got a generator with a bracket...but the generator has two studs sticking out the back. Is there supposed to be a bracket that those connect to? Can anyone take a good picture showing a few angles on how it's mounted to their hemi for me?
The generator should have a strap metal mount, bent in the shape of a staple, only larger and upside down (legs up) with bolt holes in the 'legs' that attach to the mounting ears on the gen case end plates. On the long portion of the bracket there shold be two more holes that align with drilled and tapped bosses on the drivers side top of the intake manifold. A strap from the water pump to the remaining era on the front gen end plate adjusts the belt tension. As for the studs sticking out the back, if they are about a 1/4"....they are probably the through bolts that hold the thing together. If they are 5/16" to 3/8"......AND....the generator shaft sticks out a bit, and has splines, then you have a generator that is used with a power steering pump. That is where the P/S pump was located on those models. Ray
I did some searching last night and did discover that I have a generator with the P/S bolts on the backside. I will wind up removing those. I do have the thick "staple shaped" bracket. I don't have the belt tension bracket. Anyone know of a bracket I could get off a junkyard car that would be a good replacement? Otherwise, I guess I could fabricate something.
The original mounting bracket bolts to the left side, two bolts go through the top water pump holes and one into a threaded boss in the intake manifold.
Mine are similar to the "upside staple" as described above. IIRC two bolts mount in the bottom of the staple - one to the intake manifold and one to the water crossover - however mine are 392 - not sure it that's the same as your 354 or not. I'll dig up a pic if you'd like.
