Im home from work today with bronchitis and the weather ****s. So, i decided it would be a good time to rip out the interior in my 41 Chevy project. Turns out i shoulda stayed inside. After pulling out the backseat i found the cancer. basically all the metal under the seat is gone. got me really dicouraged, so i packed it up and came back inside. not sure what to do from here. maybe its because im sick....hopefully i'll be less disgusted when i'm feelin better. Any one got before and after pics of their cancer? Maybe seeing what other people have done will make me feel better.
Better to find it now then have a surprise later. I would imagine thats all flat sheetmetal so I wouldn't think it would be to hard to repair. Keep the faith brotha
Chin-up and get back it! You can fix anything, maybe it's some more work, but it'll be worth it. Check out my build, going on 15 years, yeah I get down about it sometimes, but it'll be worth it when it's done!
dont feel bad- you dont deal with something that old and find that everything is perfect. I had to take 2 model A's just to make my one. And you should not be pulling nasty old interior out if you have bronchitis anyway- that will agitate it more.
There's always surprises when restoring an old one. Go to car shows, look on the HAMB, keep your eyes on the prize and the end result in your mind. Watching people cruise and have fun with their rides always lights the fire to start building

Set up a waste barrel for just rust **** you cut off. If you fill a 55 gal drum with **** you cut out, you got something.
Just cheered myself up a little... got off the phone with Bob over at Owens Salvage. Ordered the hood and fender i need. What a great guy to deal with!!!
Lol... I don't know how you didn't know about that cancer a while ago, but don't worry. New tin is relatively inexpensive, and I'm sure you've got a welder and a grinder! Wicked50's right- go get yourself a 55 gallon drum. Fill that up with all of the rusty **** you cut out of your car. Then, when you've got all of those places patched up, you can take the drum to the salvage yard or wherever and dump it out. I gaurantee you it will be one of the best feelings of accomplishment you will have while building your car.
You didn't see this earlier? You could have seen the seat from below. That's a dead giveaway that there isn't much left......I thought midwest cars were bad! Anyway, keep your chin up and get back on this when you are feeling better. A clear head is always best when making decisions.
Just keep plugging away at it. Every inch you fix gets you up the hill. Eventually you will start down hill and you will realize wow this thing is looking like something. Then you will start thinking hey I might get anothe rproject this ones almost done..... its a sickness.
this is a perfect example of what you do not want to spend money on. anyone with the skills to weld in a floor could easliy make this from flat sheet. there is a bunch of people selling this **** out there. I did a 51 convertible where the owner said he had floor and trunk pans. we get the car to my place and he pulls this type of **** out of the back of his truck. totally ****ing useless.. I used it for s**** and had to make up new floors from flat sheetmetal.
65 mustang conv. Inner rockers, floor, torque boxes, outer wheel houses, quarters, foot boxes, shock towers, I lost track after that.
You guys are the best!! I'd probably be smiling right now if the bronchitis would let me stop coughing long enough to do so. Just went out to take another look and its not looking so bad anymore. Dont know what else i shoulda expected from a $100 car that was used as a squirrel nest for 40 yrs. I've already filled 3 30gal trash bags with nuts and sunflower seeds. Did find some cool things under all that **** too
Here it was before. I had never replaced inner rockers without taking the outers off but I did. Outers were galv and perfect. A million spot welds.
Not to worry guy. My coupe had the cloth top of all 32 cars. It was gone and a big hole had rusted out right in the center of the floor. About 3 feet in dia. Just ground out what rust was there, took some sheet metal and pop riveted it in place, undercoat top and bottom. Been there since 1977, no problems. Yours might be a little more difficult but it shouldn't be a death sentence for the car. Good luck.
stay inside get over the bronchitus as it makes you feel like your going to cough out a lung then just take your time and fix the rust ,
Now that i've had lots of free time with my thoughts and trying to come up with a plan for the car, i'm thinkin of channeling it, since i'll be replacing the entire floor anyway.
No big deal .If you plan on driving it cut it out and repair ,...or go over it and paint it before you do . If your restoring cut it out and buy patch panels ,If there small rot holes cut it out and fibergl*** over holes ,It all depends what your aiming for .Show ,or driver
