OK. I am not a mechanic by any means. I know a little about a lot but not a master of any thing as I said before. I have a 1960 bel-air and I know the alt is bad. It broke down on me about a month ago and I knew it was the battery or the alternator. I parked it at my apt but I had to park it in the back and kids kept messing with it so I got it started enough to move it. I broke down again right before I could park it and it was blocking every other car off so I had to move it again. Finally 10 kids came out and helped me push it into a parking place but it was angled so that it was block this ***holes prius any way he came out and said you move your car ot I will have it towed. So I had to roll it back into a fire lane. I have to have my car moved asap so I got a new battery because the part stores were not open thinking that that would do it. It tured over strong it was not doing that before on the dead battery but it did not start. I think maybe I flooded it pumping it so many times trying to get it running or keep it running. I do not know I know that it will not start though and it seems to be getting power now but not getting fuel. I do not know what to check next. can some one please help? I also forgot to mention that it died while the jumpers were connected.
change the spark plugs they are probably gas washed. easy way to test alternator on car is with car running take screwdriver and on backside of alternator in center see if there is magnetic draw, if their is it's charging otherwise you have bad battery or regulator.
