well ive been reading another thread I posted yesterday, and just got me wondering. What kind of car or truck did you learn to drive in? mine is (as my screen name) a 1969 f100.

thanks for all the great replies. I love just reading some of the old cars you learned to drive in.

My dads 57 chevy with 3 on the tree. Ours was red and white, and yea I raced it too when my dad let me use it. I remember your post from the other day, and you can learn to drive a stick, go to a parking lot and practice letting the clutch out and give it some gas as you get to the engagement point.

Ha thats classic, I learned to drive in my old mans 1972 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. The thing was as big as an Amazon. He just sat back in the passenger seat with his big cigar and said...dont use the brakes, they’ll get out of your way. Sweet. Slim

When I was 8 it was my job to drive my grandpa's '65 Dodge truck when we bailed hay in the fields. I got my license and learned to drive stick in my uncle's '83 Dodge Omni. The majority of my parents' cars were stick and they would not permit me to get my license without knowing how to drive all of their vehicles. I am ever so grateful for that.

Around 1963 maybe..I was 11/12 years old; 50 chevy 2dr sedan lot car. I took the doors off, then used chisel/hammer/(hacksawed the front posts) to cut the roof off. Got it running somehow...then asked my mom how to do the column shift and clutch. Dad worked two jobs and was not there that day.

I was doomed from that point on...

my neighbor across the street had a vw powered buggy similar to this, also learned about hitting a rut in a slide and barrell rolling it, a few bumps bruises and 4 broken bones, most important thing I really learned at 14 years old was the importance of wearing the seat belt,Man it was a blast!!!

I started out with a Powerwheels Jeep when I was two. Moved on to a Go-Kart, then my dad's S-10 when I was about 6. then a CJ-7 and Dodge Ram. Pappy would let me drive his '79 C-10 and '88 Subaru on their road (About 5 miles, no cops, no annoying neighbors) when I was about 12. He street raced in Michigan through the 60's and has trucked all over the Eastern US. I'm so thankful I had him to teach me how to drive. I got my permit and license with no problem 2 years ago. Now I'm working on getting my CDL.

I learned to drive in a 1965 Morris Mini Traveler wagon, right hand drive 4 speed back in '77. It's in my driveway and I still love driving it.

for me it was a '73 Mercury Capri , as a side note when I was 11 I wrecked my first car a '66 Corvair with a 4 speed. it was a little different that a big ole farm tractor!. When I was 17 my dad told me to get in it (same Corvair) and not to get out till I could drive it.. probably one of the best things he ever did
