I had to remove a tractor box from a 29 roadster project my friend bought it was a 1 to1 ratio so it was super hard to steer and would have been impossible to drive.

  4. I don't know about tractors but I have heard about old time racers using Ross boxes out of combines.

Stock 38 Chrysler Imperial is 21 turns lock to lock, with a big steering wheel. With tiny front tires and a light motor the tractor box might work, but otherwise I would guess the steering effort might be too much.

I think that Chrysler box is 5-1/4 turns lock to lock. It has a 21:1 ratio, but the sector gear is just 1/4 of the circle, or possibly even less.

There is a lot of difference in how many turns lock to lock and the steering box ratio.
Most cars have a ratio between 17 and 21. The 17:1 boxes are called high performance unless they have power steering in which case they are called grocery getter steering boxes.
