Now that´s some improvement right there, good job!
    I remember seeing build-pics of the top-most re-incarnation
of this car in the late "Custom Rodder" -magazine back in the fall of 1991 or so.
Besides the general make-over itself, I like the flow You put into the side-view by way of Your 2-dr conversion. Did You reshape the 4-dr roof or is it swapped entirely? Was that front-overhang stretched out somehow at some point?

Thanks for the kind words, the Merc has gone through a lot of changes throughout
the years and I’m thrilled of the progress that I’ve made. The front end
was extended because it sits on a 77 Cougar Chassis. When it was originally built it
didn’t need as much of an extension but when L. D. Long originally built the Merc he
was trying to copy a Thom Taylor concept drawing. Needless to say it didn’t turn out.
Hopefully as years go on the Custom Rodder pictures will be forgotten. This was not a
proud moment in Mercury history but it turning out to be a good ending.

When Ralph Schindel took over the project it just kept snow balling, there was a lot of
ugly that needed to be removed. Ralph knows his stuff and performed exceptional body
work. The back doors were welded shut and the rear window opening was redesigned to
fit. I had a 4 door parts car so we just extended the doors six inches instead of using doors
off of a two door Merc. Your supposed to use what ya have but it would have been a lot
easier if we would have used doors from a two door. The top does look like it has been re
chopped but it hasn't just improved the proportions.

Currently, Jeff Meyers is working on the Fenders skirts. We are adding gravel shields off of
a 53 Ford so skirts will look more like a quarter panel. I’m proud to say the Merc will be
    shinny some day.

Hopefully the pictures helped and thanks again for the kind words.

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

  14. Man... 99% of these are DEFINATELY improvements over what you guys started with... I'm impressed!

I especially like that Stude pickup... jeez, what a transformation! I like the shorty bed!
