I ran across a '99 Ranger with a 2.5 SOHC 4 banger and five speed for cheap money. I also have an A frame and 28-29 cowel that would make a nice Huckster. I need to know if the 2.3 carb intake and ignition stuff will bolt on so i can dump the EFI.

    Thanks in advance.

The 2.5 should accept the later 2.3 intake and exhaust, but you're hosed on ignition. They closed the hole in the block and went to 8 plug dual DIS modules. You could set up a crank trigger and cap off one set of spark plug holes, but the stock ignition depends on the ECU to work.

I have one in a 2000 Ranger that I am about to swap into a '62 Falcon with all the EFI and A/C, etc. I've learned a lot about these motors lately.

Cool mod I have seen, the EFI has a lower half that terminates in a square flange pointed straight up on the driver's side of the head. It looks a lot like a 4 bbl pattern, but is easily capped with plate and any 2 bbl, or pair of, added to that. It flows way better than a 2.3 intake. I understand that 9/16" freeze plgs are used to close the injector bosses and Racer Walsh sells an adapter plate to add a 2300 Holley.

You can swap the 2.5L crank, rods, and pistons into a 1989, and later 2.3L block that has the hole for the distributor so you can use it rather than the distributorless ignition system. Using the carb adaptor for the lower fuel injected intake doesn't work to well on a street drivin car, it's a bear to get warmed up because there no heat supplied to the intake, and the f.i. manifold doesn't drive to good unless you can keep the rpm's above 3500 (if you have ever drivin a car on the street with a tunnel ram you will know what I mean).Check out the link in my signature for all the Ford 2.0, 2.3, and 2.5 info you can dream of.
